We had the good fortune of connecting with Nate Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nate, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well to be truthful I don’t really consider my brand a “business”, to me it’s rather like my own personal art project. Honestly my thought process was really simple I just wanted a way for me to be able to make a piece of denim that is unique and one of one. Calling it NUMBERS OF 999, allows me to do just that, with each numbering up to 999, making each piece unique as an individual.

Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I would say if anything, I based a lot of my clothes and work off of anime. Overall I have seen so many different anime shows, I love to gather inspiration from there outfits and I can just picture a version thats tweaked with my own personal style. It would honestly be a lie for me to say that getting to where I am today was easy, because through this whole process of building a brand their is always the thoughts of self doubt, but I alway try to remember the bigger picture, me having my brand touch and effect the lives of every one that wears my clothes making them feel confident and unique. In my opinion, I like to think that I have been blessed with a passion for clothes and I am great in what I do, but always staying humble and keeping in mine that their is always room for growth. One thing I’m really excited about is my popup shop at Art Basel this year, because we are trying something new that I haven’t done before, so I just have a good feeling about it, fingers crossed.
One thing I definitely have learned in this industry is that everything is a process and the first step to it is starting and as long as you have drive and truly enjoy what your doing, you will finish, you just have to keep working towards your goal.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I mean I don’t really go out too often, I would like to say I’m what most call a “homebody”. However, if I could take them somewhere it would be the beach to go skim boarding. Another thing I would add to the itinerary would be learning to water ski or paddle boarding. I feel like being by the ocean is a soothing feeling hearing the waves crash, and just being out in the open by such a vast but unknown body of water makes it feel like an escape from everything. Truthfully, I would say I’m more so of a impulsive person so making plans is usually not something I do. I more likely to go with the flow of the day and just see we’re it takes me, not really setting any expectations, and creating new experiences.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well, first I would have to give a shoutout to God for pouring so many blessing into my life and placing so many amazing friends into my life. I Shout them out for always helping me whether it’s me ever needing a video, or helping with a photoshop or model. They are always willing to help, so without them I don’t think I would be in the position I am at today. Another big shoutout is to Saulo, one of my brothers, because he practically helped me build this brand by managing the social media aspect and modeling. I also would like to thank anyone that ever modeled, did photography, or videography for NUMBERSOF999. I cannot forget anyone that ever purchased something from my brand, this is because at times I can feel unsure of what I’m doing but every purchase just reassures me that this is exactly what I want to be doing.
