We had the good fortune of connecting with Nell & Lori Sharabani and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nell & Lori, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After being a slave to the typical 9-5 work week, we realized we were living for the weekends. In addition, we felt like our weekends were being cut short because Sundays were full of anxiety knowing Monday was around the corner. We wanted to make a change in our lives that would allow us to still work and support ourselves having more flexibility throughout our work week.
With COVID-19 affecting the world with lockdowns and regulations, we saw the rise in eCommerce companies such as Instacart, Amazon, DoorDash, and other similar companies which helped many people get food and other items delivered to their doorstep. This is when we realized the opportunity in starting an online business was now since we were moving towards a virtual world. As someone who lost her job due to this pandemic, we realized we needed job security. By creating our own online business, we would guarantee ourselves this security.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are most proud of starting your own business before 30. Our parents started their businesses later in life and it feels great to know we started our business early. Definitely being persistent helped us get to where we are today. Setting up our Facebook page and website has been a nightmare but just pushing through and not giving up helped us get to where we are today. Through this process, we learned that not everything will come easy. Starting your own business is difficult and requires motivation. But if you are persistent and stay motivated, the outcome is extremely rewarding.
We want the world to know that achieving your dreams is possible. You just have to turn your dream into a reality and that’s what we did with Sunflower Boutique Store. Neither of us had a background in entrepreneurship or website building but we learned through our experiences.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our favorite coffee shop in Miami is Shepherd Artisan Coffee. This coffee shop is in Miami Beach and has the best breakfast items! Our favorite is their Shakshuka. We spend most of our time working from this coffee shop. If you’re looking for shopping we love the Brickell City Center. It’s a beautiful mall with many restaurants and stores! The best beaches in Miami are South Point Beach and Fort Lauderdale so definitely check these beautiful beaches while you’re in town! If you’re looking for some nightlife, there are many great places in Brickell and Miami Beach.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
After watching one of my best friends Emma Musto start two of her own small businesses I realized my sister and I could do it together. Throughout the process of creating our website and social media content, Emma was like a mentor to us. She gave us great tools and tips for starting a new business.
In addition, our parents have always supported us and pushed us to start our own business. Since both parents started their own businesses and saw the freedom it provided they wanted their kids to enjoy the same lifestyle including uncapped success and more leisure.
