We had the good fortune of connecting with Nichole Walz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nichole, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Dr. Josh and I had practiced for 7 years before opening our own practice here in Brickell, On-The-Go Wellness Chiropractic. We wanted to take the very best from all our associate positions we’d been able to experience throughout the years and we did just that! We believe that getting to know our patients and what they do every day plays a huge roll in getting to the bottom of what’s going on. We spend 60 minutes with each new patient and 20-30 minutes on each follow-up visit. This allows us to not only treat the area of concern, but also give proper stretches, posture and ergonomic tips, sleeping tips and SO much more! This way, the patient will not only get better, but STAY better because they’ll be doing the correct things at home/work. We know patients are busy and “on-the-go,” which is why we wanted to offer both in-office and in-home treatments, in the case that patients don’t want to fight traffic, worry about parking or take time away from their busy schedules for treatment.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Dr. Josh and I spend time with our patients and we offer both in-office and house calls (as previously mentioned). This may sound silly, but I believe what really sets us apart more than the previous statement is that we CARE about our patients. We treat our patients like family and it really translates into their results. Traditionally, healthcare in the USA can sometimes feel impersonal and we pride ourselves on doing the opposite in our office! Getting to this point was certainly NOT easy! We went full-time in the practice last July during a global pandemic (we’re crazy, I know). I think staying focused on our mission-helping patients not only get out of pain, but live well and stay well-has helped us overcome any challenge we’ve faced. Dr. Josh and I not only love health, wellness and chiropractic! We actually lived in Singapore for 2 years and backpacked Asia and Europe for 2 years afterward. Poor Dr. Josh had never left the USA and somehow I convinced him to sell everything we owned and go explore the globe. We’ve explored over 45 countries together in the last 5 years! Traveling has really opened our eyes to other cultures and helped us become much better people and practitioners. We ultimately chose Miami as our forever city in 2018 because of the diverse culture, amazing food, beautiful weather, and close proximity for traveling to many other countries in the world!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We LOVE Miami SO much-it’s truly one of our favorite cities in the world! We’d break down our itinerary into one day each in Brickell, South Beach, Wynwood and Key Biscayne. In Brickell, we’d eat at B Bistro, Pub Belly Sushi, and Fleming’s Steakhouse and spend the time in between shopping and walking around Brickell Key with drinks at Riverside. In South Beach, we’d eat at Planta, Ceviche 105 and Joe’s Stone Crab, spending the time in between at the beach and South Point Park and late night drinks at Juvia. In Wynwood, we’d have brunch at Morgan’s and then eat at Love Life Cafe and KYU. We’d finish off the day with drinks at Astra. In Key Biscayne, we’d explore Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, visiting the Lighthouse and then the beach at Crandon Park. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Goodness, we’ve had SO many amazing mentors throughout the years! I would say our two biggest mentors were Dr. Rick Markson (Plantation, Florida) and Dr. John Lockenour (Port Orange, Florida). Dr. Markson and Dr. Lockenour taught us not only to be great physicians in regards to treatment, but to be the best physicians for our patients as well. They taught us to treat our patients like family.
