We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicky Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicky, what makes you happy? Why?
The whole tattooing process makes me happy. From drawing the perfect design down to the last detail, to then placing it on my client and watching my vision transform into a beautiful piece of artwork . But the best part is truly seeing my clients face light up once they see the final result in the mirror it makes me happy knowing they are 100% content with the design.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a fine line tattoo artist from Miami. I’ve been tattooing for about 3 years now. Times been flying by, but about 6 years ago. I would have never thought I would be where I am today.

Flash back to 6 years ago. I would draw constantly on my arm everyday, dreaming about putting my art on skin forever. I never thought I would achieve my dream considering I’ve never step foot inside a tattoo shop in Miami.

After working on my portfolio for 3 years, I finally built up the courage to walk in a couple tattoo shops in Miami and find an apprenticeship.
Shop after shop kept denying me, they were either had too many employees or they weren’t “in the teaching mood”. After so much rejection I felt defeated and discouraged from living my dream.

A couple days after I received a message back from major league tattoos, wanting me to come in for an interview. And the rest was history! My shops owner believed in me and gave me the opportunity to learn from everyone at the shop.

After 4 months of watching and learning based off looking at my fellow tattoo artist. It was finally my turn to tattoo. It was really difficult at first but after my 4th tattoo I was picking up my style and realizing how much I loved tattooing.

It’s been 3 years since then and I couldn’t enjoy my career more. It’s the best decision I ever could of made.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

My favorite spots in Miami are:
major league tattoos since I’m always there working and having fun with my clients and coworkers.

I also enjoy going every Friday to the tea room at cauley square. You can definitely call me a regular. If you enjoy tea and all things spooky/vintage. This is the place for you.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I want to give a shout out to my Manager/Assistant Eleni. Thank you for all your creative ideas and support everyday.
I also want to give a shout out to my shop owner, Mike. Thank you for believing in me from the beginning and giving me an apprenticeship. You’ve given me every opportunity I needed to grow in my career.

I wouldn’t be here without both of you guys, Thank you.
