We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Dechert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, what role has risk played in your life or career?
You know that saying, With no risk comes no reward. That’s definitely true, when opening a business. There is a lot of sacrifice, hard work, determination and dedication. In 2017 when I decided to open The Cake lovers storefront it was one of the biggest risks I have ever taken in my life. With the support of my husband, family and friends. We used everything we had. We worked diligently to open as quickly as possible. working every day and most nights, to open in just a few months. We did everything our selves. This definitely challenged me in so many ways. Taking on this risk, the over head and rolling the dice with no employees. There was a lot of sacrifice. I had two young boys at the time, and not being present at home was difficult. However without this risk I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The Cake Lovers is a custom cake shop in Plantation. We create all types of desserts with cakes being our specialty. Our attention to detail and passion shows from start to finish. We Love creating hyper realistic cakes and custom designs. Keeping up with new trends is very important in this industry. What sets us apart from other companies as you’re not only be getting a delicious beautiful cake, you’re getting quality professional service from start to finish.

I’m so thankful and proud of so many things about The Cake Lovers. I take a lot of pride in the fact that I opened the cake Lovers cake shop.Being a business owner has many challenges but I love every aspect of it. We are lucky to be a part of so many people’s special days and events. Creating delicious and visually stunning cakes and desserts is very rewarding. I have also been featured on a few tv show competitions (Big Time Bake & Cake Hunters) and won which was pretty exciting! The Cake Lovers also creates cakes for high corporate clients celebrities and athletes which is very exciting for us.

It was not easy getting to where I am today there’s been a lot of things I’ve had to learn over the years.. There is a lot of sacrifices, missing out on special events and not taking vacations. There’s really no days off when you’re business owner. Some of the things I have had to learn over the years. Is Customer service and management. People think even the simplest cake can be whipped up in no time there’s so many things that people don’t understand about this industry. There’s so much planning ordering, organization time management and production to final product all while making sure it’s done on time and as requested.
The Cake Lovers brand has definitely changed over the years and I am always trying to improve our practices and products. I’m excited to continue to push The Cake Lovers towards new successes and focus on more community involvement..

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is definitely a difficult one as I honestly don’t go out much. I work a lot of weeks Monday through Sunday. Being a small business owner I don’t have a lot of time. Cakes and sweets are always delivered Friday Saturday and Sunday for the most part. There’s really not a lot of time to hang out. But if I did, I would most definitely take them to some of my favorite local small businesses that have amazing food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out to my family for all their love encouragement and support over the years. To all of my customers who have supported my business from the beginning. And to the new ones as well! With out them we wouldn’t be here today. And of course my incredible staff, also known as The cake family. I’m so thankful for them in so many ways. Their hard work and dedication is appreciated more than they know. This is a team effort, Each and every staff member plays a part in the sweet treats and cakes that are created every week. I am forever grateful for all of them.
