We had the good fortune of connecting with Nyame Nti Nsibienakou-Fawohodie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nyame Nti, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The to be grateful for the process and to not forget why I created the organization in the first place.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Cherades Youth Theater Project Incorporated is a non profit organization that utilizes the platform of the arts for social change. We focus our efforts on empowering the youth we work with through various artistic activities and programs from drama, to playing a musical instrument to creating.. What sets Cherades apart is our well rounded approach to our programming. Youth are referred to Cherades from various organizations and part of the process of youth participating is the parents also being engaged.. We are not a baby sitting service, but we are always available.. It has been a slow process. to arrive where we are today.. There were times that I felt like the process was not worth it, however I surround myself with positive energy which has helped me to stay focused. Much like the rest of the world, COVID-19 changed the way that we run programming. Initially, I thought that we were going to have to just stop business for awhile, however thanks to technology, we evolved in spite of the pandemic having several different programs and camps throughout the year. I certainly learned that being open to change brings one closer to their goals. Cherades is now in its next phase of growth as we are expanding into two other states with our goal of building a youth outdoor theater retreat center and an artist in residence home for artist to have a place to go and work on their craft in peace. We have our fundraiser campaign Brick by Brick where people can donate either financially or their building services .

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So we would have to start at Wet Willies, Then after we get good and happy 😃 we would have to go visit Ishushi restaurant in Midtown. After a nice tasty meal, it’s time to head downtown to bay front to take a boat ride to look at all of the multi million dollar houses. Afterwards we’d have to go walking around on South beach to people watch (yep I’m pretty simple)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My network of Queens Collective Sistahood, FanmSaj, Melenated Essentials, Avenues Of Excellence, Washington-McAllister, and Gem Culture. Theses Trail Blazers in their own rights have always been supportive of Cherades, our mission and goals. Most importantly, I want to thank husband Francois. Without the support behind closed doors, I would not have the freedom to push myself to keep Cherades growing.
