We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Ormos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, how did you come up with the idea for your business?

I have always enjoyed creating, creating cutting edge ideas and unique businesses that will drive a solution based result. Whether that be for an original event like Model Volleyball or a new tech-solution in my case, mavn.

As a marketing agency owner, our firm OO & CO was offering 360 marketing to clients over the past 10+ years, which included event production, branding, social media & content creation and *influencer marketing*.

I found that I could not be in a single meeting without hearing the word “influencer” come up multiple times. Whether it was to invite influencers to an event or experience, pay them to create or post content, ship products to their homes as gifts and live photo shoots. It seemed every single part of marketing now involved influencers.

Influencer marketing is not as glamorous behind the scenes as you may think. Followers, beautiful people, fabulous travel — but in reality our agency amongst many others were working overtime to produce top tier results for our brands.

Everyone was still using Google Sheets and managing their influencer data in columns and rows trying to keep up with where an influencer lived, how much they charged, how many followers and engagement they had — all manually.

Then more manual work with communication, using multiple platforms to get the deals accomplished. Think some influencers you text, some you whatsapp, some e-mail, some even DM because you still don’t even have their info.

More manual work next when an influencer is now submitting high-resolution content via Dropbox or Google Drive. Having to now e-mail for contracts and W9s. Corresponding back and forth.

Just too many steps in this process that should be automated to support the influencer, the agency and the brand teams.

I founded mavn to finally confront and remove these pain points our industry is still facing every single day once and for all.

mavn, a double-sided luxury marketplace, offers a solution-based way for creators/influencers to connect with opportunities through dining, paid, experiences & more.

In just 7 months, mavn has received over 3,000+ organic applications with a combined reach of over 150M+ across approved creators.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

One of the most important things I stand for and also instill into my team is to always to ask yourself if you’ve done your best or could you have performed better. How do we constantly strive to be better every single day. How to be different every single day and how to make sure we aren’t finding ourselves complacent in any aspect of our careers.

I want to know that our team is always delivering the top caliber of work and that we are proud of the work we’re producing. Content is permanent and will always be able to referenced.

I want OO & CO to be remembered as a team who delivered their best and as a leader who actually cared about bringing out the best in people.

I don’t expect every team member to be with me forever, but I hope they will look back and say Olivia helped me get where I am today. That is what’s most important to me, playing an important and memorable goal for all aspiring marketers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I would have to say there’s a few for me here.

#1 my parents – They were both entrepreneurs and I was fortunate enough to watch them operate as business owners growing up. It was nice being able to see my parents at all my school gatherings, volleyball games, present to pick or drop off my friends. They also allowed me to really just be me. I was never conditioned to do anything I didn’t want to do and I contribute my success to them always supporting every and anything I asked for. When I got to college I really had no idea what to major in and my mom said “try public relations, I know someone and if you end up liking it we have an in”

Which leads to my second shout out

#2 Vanessa Menkes – the OG PR Wizard who is still operating in Miami. My first internship while in college at the University of Florida was with Vanessa who was the Director of Public Relations for the Opium Group aka the COOLEST nightlife group in 2004. Think Prive, Mansion and Opium Garden, freaking ICONIC. My mom’s “in” had worked with Vanessa in NYC and made the introduction. Watching Vanessa I became a better writer & communicator, met some of my strongest relationships to date, some cool celebrities and was even able to work the VMA’s red carpet! She was a great mentor and happy I am able to give her this shoutout today.

and lastly #3 Jeff Goldstein who I worked under as well during my summer in college in New York City. Jeff was a toughie and I can’t thank him enough for pushing me the way he did to work hard and figure things out on my own. The biggest lessons I have taken with me thanks to Jeff were “always follow up, always” and “the worst anyone will say to you is no” Thank you Jeff, for making sure I entered this industry as fiercely as humanely possible.
