Meet Paula Barros | Comedian & Voice Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Paula Barros and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paula, how do you define success?
Success is when your mom is really proud of you, but also, you’re pretty proud of you. It’s paying the bills and also having money leftover to go on vacay, even if just 10 miles away. I think it’s when you’re working smart not hard. And it’s also when you’ve found a place in the world where your unique ability is respected and rewarded equally.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Right now I’m the voice of Univision’s #1 day time TV show Desiguales. I’m also a narrator for the Law & Crime Network doing lots of true crime stories.
Last year Miami New Times named be Best Comedian 2024. That was awesome.
I’ve got a couple of big projects in the works too but I can’t say too much yet!
I always knew I wanted to entertain. I just didn’t know how. Whether it was dance or acting or being a game show host, I wanted to do it all. So I threw my soul into it growing up. Always learning, taking the theatre classes, learning the lines, doing the plays, showing up for all those long days at student film sets. I chose a road for my life early on so everything I did was always along that road.
I will not say it was easy. It’s funny with entertainment because rejection becomes nothing to you. When you audition for something every day you develop this sort of inner anesthesia to being passed on. Regular jobs, people interview for, what? Like once a year? Once every 5? With acting and “the biz” you are basically presenting yourself to new clients every day. So No’s mean nothing. You don’t even take it personal anymore. It’s just a regular day. That’s a nice skill to have. Resilience.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m pretty lazy about going out into Miami traffic so I’d have anyone I love come to my house. Hangout on my dock on Biscayne Bay. But if I had to show them around I’d say:
Miccosukee Casino for some authentic Miami energy. They also have some fire Cuban dishes made daily. The vibe is so Latino and upbeat! It’s also super close to some airboat rides! There’s slots and poker and some of the funniest regulars ever. Oh and that decades old carpet, it’s a Miami relic. I’ve always wanted to film a reality show about that place.
Same goes for Hialeah park casino. So much fun. And like the best oxtail in Miami for under $15 with two sides. People are sleeping on this miami casino food! They have actual abuelas making it in the kitchen!
I’ve always loved Gramps for a great cocktail and convo. It’s got fantastic music and vibes and I always run into someone I know or meet someone cool to chat with.
The Field- insane Irish spot! It’s all magic and history in there. The staff, the people. The comedy nights!!! It’s cozy and inviting and it’s really hard to leave!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this to my folks. They’ve taught me to be equal parts warrior and leisure lady
