We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebeca Stevenson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebeca, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
This term is used everywhere, and to be honest its a little annoying because it’s used as a right of passage or an achievement. When it comes to balance, its important to first understand everyone has their own version of it. Having self-awareness on what brings YOU happiness and what success means to YOU is THE most important part. Work-life balance for me might be working 100hr one week, and the next week working 30hr. I love what I do, and at times large amounts of work seem effortless when I know what my end goal is. My definition of balance has transitioned over time into enjoying the process, being grateful for the small moments along the way and learning to invest time in the things that actually matter to me.
My main piece of advice on this is to find what makes you happy and work on building a life with the balance YOU want.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The goal of Sliced is to help bridge the gap between medical nutrition advice and everyday eating habits. We believe that the best way to gain control of your health is through cooking. We aim to EMPOWER clients to make lifestyle changes that are simple and realistic through our live cooking experience. Sliced offers the best of both worlds: evidence-based nutrition education and hands-on culinary instruction. We are committed to teaching essential skills that can help anyone take control of their health from the comfort of their own kitchen! One of the biggest obstacles we’ve encountered is that society often makes healthy eating about restriction and avoidance, re-defining that message at times can be challenging. Our goal has been to introduce people to the fun aspect of cooking while enjoying a variety of nutrient-dense foods
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a huge coffee person so I’d take them to my favorite spots like Wells Coffee and BREW urban cafe. If they are into wine, my friends over at Small Wine shop offer a variety of tastings, classes and events that are always fun!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
