We had the good fortune of connecting with Reese Wood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reese, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process of starting my business was being able to use basketball as a way to positively affect the community, players of all ages , skill levels, and ethnic backgrounds . Also, I wanted to use my passion of being an athlete/basketball background my entire life to help those increase their basketball skills.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
With my business (basketball gym owner/high level skills training), what makes me the proudest is being able to help those increase their skill set on the court and developing relationships with all my clients where they turn to me for advice for life matters outside of basketball. Followed by that I’ provide givebacks to those in various communities who are in need. Meaning, thanksgiving drives feeding homeless, toy drives for Christmas, and book bag drives for children. My business initially started out as a free service in Philadelphia, PA by providing free basketball trainings along with academic awareness by having children read books during breaks to increase their reading levels. From that point, I worked extremely hard to increase my services to where it has come to today. There were days I felt like I was unsure if I would get to where I am and the biggest thing I faced was getting in my own way. I was able to challenge myself to exceed all expectations and continue to grow. Along the way I’ve learned that if your heart is pure, your intentions are good, and do right by people and the game then the game will be good to you which will allow you to be successful. The biggest thing I want the world to know is that everyday you’ll always get my best and I’ll do everything in my power to leave a positive impact on you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would go to some of my favorite places.. We would walk the Key Biscayne bridge to site see and look at the view of the entire city, take a beach day at Key Biscayne beach to relax, followed by that do a boat day to enjoy the water and have a great time.

Some of my favorite restaurants we would have dinner at include: Bar One which is on the water with an amazing view, Orange Blossom, Prime, Taste 107, and STK.
ALSO, visit the wynewood area to view the graffiti walls followed by a trip to Frost museum. Lastly enjoy a night of comedy at Villain Theatre .

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Throughout my current story/success I would say my family, especially my mother and father deserves a lot of credit for always raising me to be a leader since I was a child. Daily they would preach to lead by example and be sure to always help those who are in need. As a kid I never understood the significance in being a leader but as entrepreneur I understand the importance of being a positive intentional . Two other who have contributed to my story three two very important youth basketball coaches I had who are Mike Carpenter, Jodell Elerby, and Rodney “Sabree” Mathis. These three men sacrificed a lot to have a positive on my life by using sports and now I’m just attempting to follow their footsteps.
