We had the good fortune of connecting with Shameka Heath and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shameka, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance has changed tremendously since going into business for myself and I love it. I’m able to create my own schedule, set aside time for other things that I need to do, and tend to my children how I need to. No more calling off of work and being penalized for it 🙌🏾.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a licensed Esthetician/Skincare Specialist here in the Miami Gardens area. I specialize in custom skincare treatments, body waxing, and mink lash extensions. I wish I could tell you that the journey was a cakewalk lol, but it wasn’t. When I first started school to become licensed it was beyond stressful. My work schedule, and then school, it was like working a 12/13 hour shift 6 days a week. I cried, I wanted to quit, I was over it a million times. I learned to keep pushing. I knew that the reward was going to be even greater. I ask my clients a lot of questions. There’s definitely a reason as to why you chose me. Reason being is because for a long time I didn’t feel like myself and here I am helping others look and feel amazing. I live on building solid relationships with each and everyone of my clients. They’re my Gleaux fam 💜.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Lol well the food wouldn’t be an issue because your girl likes to eat! My fave place right now is BarOne Miami. Whoever Peter has making those oxtails and grits needs a raise! We’ll definitely hit Wynwood. It’s always a nice vibe down there. The beach of course, my bestie is from Chicago and she loves to hit the beach when she comes. We’re drinking anywhere that sells alcohol lol. Covid is really putting a damper on things but we’d definitely make it work.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout definitely goes to my circle! They know who they are. When I need to bounce ideas off of them, when I need to drop my girls off to do last minute errands, when I want to try new products or services on someone before adding them on my site, my circle is always there. I really have a solid team behind me and I’m forever grateful for each and every one of them.
