We had the good fortune of connecting with Renee Rutherford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Renee, how do you think about risk?
When it comes to taking risk I pretty much embrace it. I’ve learned over the years that sometimes your greatest achievements are on the other side of the risks you need to take. Most of us are delayed or stopped completely by the fear of risk taking. However if you can get past that then you’ll see that you are more than capable of doing great things. Sometimes taking risk don’t work out in your favor but at the same time that’s just a lesson to be learned and then you can get up and try again. In my own personal career in art I’ve had the pleasure of meeting people and getting my work in the hands of performers, athletes and other creatives alike by just showing up and taking the risk. Even when doubt and fear consumed my mind I just didn’t let it stop me. Being able to get over that has help pivot my career not only in a monetary way but also as a confidence booster.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At this point I’m just over 2 years into my journey as an artist, I feel my progress is what I am not only most proud of but also most excited about. To be able to get my work into the hands of Ari Lennox, Meek Mill and Chad Johnson are just examples of where risk taking can get you. The hardest part I think for anyone to conquer is self doubt, that’s the greatest challenge to overcome. I’ve learned that along the way for sure and think that’s the best advice I could give someone. Have fun in your craft, try new things and take those risk! I’m just getting started and haven’t even reached the heights I’m aiming for. I just want the world to know I was here and to leave an impact on the culture and art world long after I’m gone. If anyone takes anything away from me or my story it’s that PROGRESS IS POSSIBLE!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As a creative person I tend to grab inspiration from different avenues. One being reading. I feel a great read for someone who may be struggling with risk taking or change should get the book “Who Moved My Cheese?” by Spencer Johnson. It’s a quick read and interesting way to look at change and risk taking as it applies to your own life.
