We had the good fortune of connecting with Rheana Mills and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rheana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In my infant to adolescent stages of life, I had the opportunity of being introduced to entrepreneurship skills and knowledge and cosmetology such as skin, hair and makeup which has now developed into an un-going passion. At the age of eight, I would play games that emulated senior positions, I would pick flowers to make perfumes, use broken eyeshadow and alcohol to make face highlighters and much more.

While attending High School, I sold beauty store products, homemade lip balms and eyelash oils which I marketed and sold to the young ladies of my alma mater, my track and field team and even to teachers who supported what was once a dream. I then received a Management of Business project, where I had to create a business idea and plan based on my dream career or industry that could one day turn into a lucrative business. It was there after I knew I received a sign to start Naturalista Dreams Cosmetics Jamaica. Therefore, on September 14, 2021 I had my launch starting out with lip balms and lip glosses. Which has now expanded to a wide range of hair, skin and cosmetic products.

Why those areas you may ask ? Well, I experienced my fair share of acne and hair loss and decided to expand my line catering to skin and hair conditions such as eczema. My brand is centred around enhancing beauty naturally, woman empowerment, gender equilibrium and confidence building and we continue to build on those areas to continuously add to our community and the environment.

To end this I will say never let your dream die because it is too challenging or because of the negativity always push yourself. Wherever there is competition go against it, dreams do become a reality. -R. Mills

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets Naturalista Dreams Cosmetics Jamaica apart from other businesses in the cosmetic industry is our excellent customer and staff relationships, high quality products while providing excellent quantity with our well researched formulations, our environmentally-friendly, chemical free, biodegradable-plastic packaging and the fact that we cater to all skin types, hair types and skin colour allowing everyone to feel included as our products motivates one to embrace their true shade and enhance their beauty naturally. We empower our customers to BE BOLD. BE NATURAL. BE YOU.

I can say I am most proud of the impact my products have on others through results. Knowing that I play a huge role in positively impacting and changing someone’s life is truly amazing and I am honoured. I am most excited to expand my brand and find distributors to enlarge our market on an international scale.

With the love and support received from my family and friends, this process was smooth. As an entrepreneur we do face challenges, risks and losses but I had guardian angels who lifted me up in times of need or want. Also, understanding that time is crucial helped play a role in bringing my business to where I it is today. It allowed my production process to move quickly with just one person doing the heavy lifting. Another factor is passion, when you are passionate about your job it makes work easier for you, you get more research done and you will always find ways to better yourself, your products and your business.

Lessons I have learned are that you should be dependent on no one but yourself, never listen to negative feedback, always keep your eyes open for new ideas and demands of customers, always research when you get the chance, right all your goals and plans down, work on time management if you struggle in that area and do what you believe is best for yourself and your business.

I would like the world to know that I am a passionate business woman paving a pathway to make a positive change in the world and I would love their support with my brand as my products and services are exceptional and I will always go the extra mile to meet the needs of my consumers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in a little Island called Jamaica, therefore what better way than to introduce them to my vibrant culture and people. I would take him/her to the western side of the country to Negril where there is a strip for both day and night life. I would take my best friend to THE CLIFF HOTEL where we can enjoy the natural structure and beauty of the coast and its clear turquoise-blue waters while sipping on a Pineapple or Strawberry Colada and eating our ackee and salt fish, jerk chicken and pork, rice and peas, ground provision and much more appealing and mouth-watering dishes that our island is known for. We would also head to Ricks cafe for an evening of reggae and dancehall music while watching the sunset and end the night either at a club or in the hotel disco. We would then make our way to Ocho Rios for some fun at Margarita Ville and Chukka Caribbean! We would go for a morning of excursions such as dirt bike riding, zip lining through the tropics, climbing the falls and sliding down those water slides into the welcoming pool. We would then head to Margarita Ville for lunch where we would get to meet other tourists and of course my amazing Jamaican people. After a long day, we would head to an all-inclusive property off the north coast where we could get dinner, get rested and be close to highway for our next journey. After we wake up and enjoy our breakfast we would head over to Dolphin Cove where we would swim with the Dolphins, stingrays and sharks, go speedboat riding and explore the Pirate island. After which we would head back to the hotel for a repeat of sleeping, eating and entertainment to get ready for our next day journey to my home town, KINGSTON. In Kingston, my friend will have the comfort of staying with my family, he/she will be able to enjoy all three squared cooked meals courtesy of my mom’s delicious cooking and will get a chance to meet and party with my friends while learning a few moves and lingos to take back home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to send my heartiest thank you to my family especially my mother Dahlia Patterson-Mills, my sisters Ramone and Ramona Mills, my aunts Patricia, Adrienne and Karlene and my cousins Kirk, Michelle and others, my father Raymond Mills, my friends, and of course my amazing customers who motivate me to keep striving for excellence, producing high quality and excellent quantity products as well as keeping me abreast with their transformations which allows me to know I am making the right moves and paving my way to black excellency. All these persons mentioned have honestly been my right hand whether emotionally, financially or physically and for that I am indeed grateful.
