We had the good fortune of connecting with Rick Medina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rick, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
i grew up going to arcades with all my friends, it was a place for young people to hang out and have fun, but because of home consoles and the internet, they had all closed down. i wanted to bring back a place where everyone could hangout and enjoy themselves.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
we own and operate arcade odyssey. we have not only classic, retro, pinball, imports & even prototype arcade games. we do not try to be like a dave and busters , we want you to have a unique experience , from the food, drinks and snacks that we import to the games themselves. we want our patrons to try new things, if it looks strange or a language that you do not understand we want you to step outside your comfort zone. try a new game, eat something different or weird don’t go through your life with blinders on, explore, play and enjoy.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
wynwood, food trucks, sex museum, beaches and the arcade. if they are a gamer then i would take him to my office, where i am working on the national video game history museum.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
the most amazing woman i have ever met my wife. walt disney and willy wonka.
Other: this link shows how i was just collecting games, by page 2 you can see the creation of the arcade. https://atariage.com/forums/topic/170532-ccatalyst-gameroom-collection/ over here we took about 60% of my collection for the museum out https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.495838200491668.1073741833.220740004668157&type=1 because of the prior posts, i was on the front page of reddit then became a meme. https://www.facebook.com/arcadeodyssey/posts/10103510956222568
