We had the good fortune of connecting with Ronavia Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ronavia, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
If you want to see change, Be It. When you become the change, Own it. – Ronavia Williams We are not born with courage and audacity. We are shaped with it, for many years we have lived in the shadows of our Silence and in the meekness of our character. However, now more than ever an uproar of change has taken place. And the most beautiful part about it, is we were forced here. Therefore, we must take this moment with strategy, intent, and wisdom. This quote has been my mantra in becoming the absolute best version of myself. It has taught me how to look within before looking outward. It has taught me not to be afraid of the roaring lion within, but train it to make a loud noise within the earth. Knowing that who I am and all I was created to be is all by the Grace of God. We have been ushered into making history. We’ve learned about our ancestors and all the greats before us. Here we are over 400 years later writing the chapters to our children and children’s children Black History book. Owning this change is not easy but the purpose behind it is life or death. Black and brown people, my people are dying to police brutality, slaves to mass incarceration and have been robbed of justice and equality. We have been red-lined into poverty and have adopted “The Ghetto” as an identity. My late grandmother would say… I’m from “The Ghetto.” For some of us, we have a mentality that serves us just as great as everything we see around us. However, our strength, our struggle and the strain of lack has built us. We are a mighty force to be reckoned with. I take this moment to challenge my Black people all around the world. Rise up into the change you want to see. We have what it takes, this is our moment to become the absolute best versions of ourselves. By the Grace of God we are living and breathing. By that, our purpose and who we are is not dead. I speak life over us and challenge us to see that our greatness is within us. I take this moment to challenge large corporations who are pouring millions into Black Lives Matter initiatives, to come dine with us! Make room in your boardrooms for us we are not people moved by money but by love, justice and equality. Lastly, to all whom this applies, take your knee off our careers, the justice system, where we can live and our lives. We CAN’T BREATH. Moses said it best commissioned by God, “Let my People Go” If you want to see change, Be it. When you become the change, Own it. -Ronavia Williams
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The most beautiful part of having the gift of writing, public speaking and connecting with the people… is that I’ve been anointed for this very purpose, it’s truly a gift from God. If it was up to me, I wouldn’t have chosen such a path. However, God chose me. I love connecting and working closely with people. This was not always the case. I started writing at the age of 7, because I didn’t know how to communicate and articulate what I would feel as a child. I was a people pleaser which caused me to neglect my emotions and stance as an individual. The closer I became to God, the more I realized… He’s all I need. This gave me the confidence I needed as a young woman. This also gave me confidence in my purpose. Spoken word poetry for me is an outlet. It’s a gift but also a means to reach the nation. Come Forth is a Movement that teaches others how to become the absolute best version of themselves through… Self-love, Purpose and Faith. We look forward to serving you. The Time is Absolutely Now!
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I would definitely say Miami Beach! My favorite upscale restaurants are Barton G, Meat Market, Lobster Bar Sea Grille and A Fish Called Avalon. We would definitely hang out in Midtown Miami for scenery, Wynwood for art, and Lincoln Road to be touristy.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
None other than Jesus Christ. If I would have never found Christ… I would not have the confidence that I have today. I’m so very thankful that the best decision I could have ever made, was to give my life to Christ. In addition, I’m thankful for the strong support system and circle of influence that I have. Tani Lopez, my close friend and business partner has been an instrument in the Come Forth Movement. To this day, we have achieved so many accomplishments and many more to achieve.
