We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosanna Bermejo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rosanna, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I have been blessed with two amazing children. Being a parent is probably the most difficult job I have ever had, not only because of the enormous amount of sacrifice and work, but because of the responsibility. To complicate it even more, raising children does not come with a guidebook. In my case, throughout their childhood, I was always involved in my children’s development and wellbeing, from both, a social / academic perspective and a physical one. This focus and dedication allowed me to pass on to them what I believed to be my secret sauce. Having said that, allowing them to be themselves within specific boundaries, and loving them unconditionally was by far what has had most impact on them. When you trust your children, and guide them in their development, you are actually giving them the tools to be who they’re meant to be. This is priceless. This is also a natural process that should be guided, but not controlled.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I would drive my friend around the city through the different neighborhoods. As with all guests, I would ask him/her if he/she wanted to go shopping and make sure that is taken care of. Afterwards, it’s now time to relax and I would take him/her to Miami Beach and Lincoln Road. If he/she is up to it, we would spend the day at the beach. Finally, we would walk to Smith & Wollensky for a beautiful sunset.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have come across great counselor and mentors. Starting with Kathleen Murphy from the Miami Bayside Foundation, Nile Kirec from the Florida Small Business Development Center at FIU, and Jean Badio, who worked at the University of Miami Hospital at the time.
