We had the good fortune of connecting with Sacha Owens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sacha, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success and brand was and still is hard work and dedication. It is an absolute 150 percent effort given 7 days a week. I have always been into fitness, started teaching kick boxing at the age of 18 but I am an artist at heart, even went to college and art school for that- but art ended up on the back burner and fitness ended up being the money maker. We established our brand in 2009. I am co-owner of Prime Fitness Rx. PFRX was established as a Personal Training business, operated out of a small Anytime Fitness, in New Orleans, La. On top of training, I am certified in Sports Nutrition and was doing meal planning for all clients also. My husband, Mark, and I were the sole proprietors. Retaining client after client, we grew into our very own brick and mortar location in 2014. Mark and I attracted Hollywood South and started servicing all the productions coming to Nola- A-list celebs, you name it. We were soon recognized by investors, going on to open our second location in the New Orleans CBD in 2018, and our 3rd, also in Downtown New Orleans in January of 2019. We were blessed to have one investor that believed in our vision so much that we were able to expand PFRX to our flagship of 12,000 sq feet and bring in eGYm technology. Egym is a German fitness technology provider designing next-generation workout experiences for fitness and health facilities worldwide and we were the 5th entity in North America to have it! We were in such high demand and literally on the verge of complete burn out from training clients day in and day out.. on top of running 3 facilities (which were 24/7) we knew, the only way to expand our training was to basically have this technology help out. Who doesn’t want their very own personal trainer, 24/7 that is not only virtual but sends all of your results and progress to an APP that you can literally track! No more log books.
We soon, closed our first location because we simply outgrew the space and the layout, the new business model with eGYm and the new brand took off.
Throughout Covid, we learned virtual training through zoom- we still continue to service our L.A. and Miami clients that moved back home after finishing filming. Our new venture is to have Studios in Miami and L.A. to train those clients and travel back and forth- just training studios.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Let me tell you a little about my art. As an artist I was always fond of doing nudes and anatomy drawings. I also do large abstract paintings. I even incorporated a figure drawing into our first logo- you may see in the photos attached. My art has also been actually sculpting and transforming my own and my clients bodies into their desired results and they always end up flawless- as long as they are willing to do the hard work, show up and listen to their trainer! It was never easy to get where we are today, people only see where you are, they never se the hardworking and failures it took to get where you are. These have been the longest but most challenging 14 years of my life and everyday I am standing in the middle of our literal vision, training someone (with my artwork on the gym walls, by the way) I have to pinch myself and remind myself how blessed and grateful I am. in the hardest times, especially starting out, way before even COVID, which was unpredictable and scary as hell, you have to take a deep breath and remind yourself how far you have come and make yourself stay positive and run the negative thoughts and fears out of your head. one of my favorite quotes is: Chaos precedes Success and the entire world should do the same- remember to breathe and alway stay positive. Nothing is impossible.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting New Orleans, I would definitely take them to see some great Jazz music on Frenchman Street! The food in New Orleans is pretty incredible so we would check out my fave dinner spots such as Domenica in the CBD and Sofia in the Warehouse District!
Although New Orleans has great culture, my husband and I travel to Miami quite often, almost monthly, so we love it there and love the beach. We love to stay at the W South Beach, Kosushi is one of our favorite places… but we also love Brickell!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shout out to the other half of my brand and business. My husband Mark Owens is the mastermind behind the PFRX vision and I absolutely would not be where I am without him. We are a team-and the epitome of a #powercouple- we both have our roles in this business… not just as owners but as creative visionaries. He supports my, now hobby, of being an artist and he is an artist himself as being the designer of our gyms. I have aspirations to sell more paintings and revive my creativity in painting.
