We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melanie, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work life balance started to change the moment I shared more content on social media, especially on tik tok! I was filming videos as a way to relax and have fun on my days off from work. That soon turned into work as well, which I am eternally grateful for! But I’ve learned to truly manage my time, both on work and off days. On my off days, I plan an hour or two that I’ll use to film and create content, because these are creations that I fortunately get compensated for. Once I cluster everything, it makes relaxing and enjoying my days off a lot easier and i don’t have to stress about work!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a pediatric ICU nurse! But i did not start out as so. My first specialty was in a medical surgical unit with the adult population during covid! I gained as much experience as possible for a year, and then decided to travel to North Carolina for a travel assignment opportunity, which i did for 9 months. During that time, i met many lovely nurses from all over the country that were traveling away from home as well. I gained lots of experience in my field but also gained lifelong friendships. Being away from home for the first time in my 26 years was not easy. I was truly homesick, but the nurse on the unit became my family. After my journey there ended, I came back to another travel assignment that wasn’t a 3 hour flight away from home, but was still a roadtrip away. I worked in port saint lucie, FL for 3 months before I accepted the pediatric position I am now in. I have always wanted to pursue pediatrics, so this was a huge dream come true for me! The adjustments and learning processes haven’t been easy, but my love for kids and their well being has helped me overcome these hardships!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Favorite spots in Miami? The list is endless but i will do my best to narrow them down! If I were to make a little itinerary, I’d firstly include south beach. South beach has beautiful beaches, restaurants, and hotels with beautiful views and pool parties! Nikki beach is an outdoor restaurant with Tulum vibes and the perfect food menu. You can grab a yummy meal and then walk to the beach – perfection! Second, I would take them to Brickell! Brickell Miami is another world. There are so many restaurants and rooftops to enjoy! However, I do recommend ubering there with plenty of time in advance for your reservations. And lastly, I recommend Cocowalk in coconut grove! After years of being under construction, coconut grove is now thriving and ever growing with shops, restaurants, and beautiful outdoor parks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friends at work deserve a huge shoutout, because it’s with them that I lived the experiences from work that i now share on social media and has gotten me to where i am today. They endured all of the hardships of Covid back in 2020, and still managed to be happy and enjoy our time spent together. This not only unified us even more as a team, but made the hardships a lot easier to endure.
