We had the good fortune of connecting with Sephanie Coutoulakis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sephanie, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Giving up isn’t a choice I allow myself to have. But what i do allow myself to do is learn, grow, and change. Trusting my gut and using experience definitely alters the way I approach certain goals or situations constantly. We live in a changing world, and have to learn to adapt and persevere through many different circumstances at any given time. I feel that if you do not learn to adjust, then that is when you get discouraged enough to give up. So I surround myself with a strong circle of support, push through, and keep going!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Is anything ever easy? I started 5 Star All Stars, with a lot of help to our home base, Gymnastics Plus, when I was 18. What started out as something I did for fun, turned into this amazing program, with some exceptional kids and families. At 5 Star, we really strive for a family environment. Yes, we love to compete but we also love our relationships and life long bonds we make along the way. We aren’t just shaping great athletes, but great humans. The lessons we teach go beyond the mat. With every GREAT idea, of course comes challenges. We are surrounded by many well known, and well established programs, so it is a daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal challenge as the “little guy” to prove ourselves. We work so hard to make a name for ourselves in our industry, that it is so important to not listen to what others say, or get discouraged. It is definitely a personal thing I am still overcoming, but once you see the success in your athletes and smiles on kids faces, it makes it all worth it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
* Post quarantine* I love Delray Beach and Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale! I also love the Promenade in Coconut Creek! The beach would be my first stop! A nice brunch somewhere on “the ave”, park tavern or deck 84, and a night out in Fort Lauderdale, maybe the Wharf. I am more of a home body, so it would take a friend visiting to get me out past my bedtime!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family deserves way more than a little credit and recognition in my story. Without their lessons and support, I could 100% say I would not be where I am today.
