Meet Sergio Gaitan MD FAAD | Cosmetic Dermatologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Sergio Gaitan MD FAAD and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sergio, what do you attribute your success to?
I think the most important factor behind my success and the success of the brand is consistency. Always delivering a consistent result. In medicine and skin care that can be very hard because of how different we all are. That is where experience and knowledge of the skin helps to be able to deliver a result for our patients. Now we know not everyone responds as expected to all treatments. The key is knowing how to adjust , when they don’t respond as expected,  to make sure they get the result they are after. The skin is complex, but we can all agree the result of clear skin that makes you feel good is what we are going to achieve.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
To me the best part about being a cosmetic dermatologist is the art aspect. What I am most proud of in my work is being able to deliver a natural result. For instance, in aesthetics, I always hear less is more and subtle changes. However, that is not my style. I focus on creating transformative changes. Where you look like the best version of yourself. All this without people knowing you got work done. Most of the time my patients hear “did you lose weight? ” The reason for that is when you tighten the skin it creates a more youthful appearance.

Becoming a dermatologist is incredibly difficult. It is one of the most competitive fields in medicine. I am thankful that I always worked hard and was able to achieve it. Lessons I learned along the way are the importance of the psychological aspect of the skin. There are skin conditions that currently cannot be fixed and those are always the toughest cases. The importance of helping the patient feel comfortable in their skin no matter what, is the most valuable lesson I have learned.

What I want the world to know about Certified Cosmetics and Skin Care is that you come here to become part of a family. You are getting skin care from a Board Certified Dermatologist. We are not here to push products or procedures but to give you what is best for your skin. Our ultimate reward is seeing our patients back with their newfound confidence.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friends were coming to West Kendall and I wanted to show the best time ever I would take them to the Palms in Town and Country because there are a lot of options to eat, shop, and for entertainment. If they were interested in nature Aguacate is a nice farm to eat vegan food and see animals. If they have children, I would take them to Westwind Lakes park to see the splash pad.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am very thankful to my parents for my success. They raised me to always look at the big picture. At the end of the day as a dermatologist I have the gift to be able to help people with their skin. That is why I work so hard to be able to deliver for the patient, because I know the difference it makes to have clear skin. I am also thankful where I did my residency training at UNC dermatology. It was an amazing program where we all felt like family. That is the same type of experience I want our patients to feel where they become part of the family. Lastly, I want to thank my wife as she has been instrumental in opening Certified Cosmetics and Skin Care and making sure patients have a top of the line experience.
