We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelly Desorvil and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelly, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The soap I was using wasn’t working for my skin anymore. My skin was getting dry and the store brought soap wasn’t helping. I started to research ways to help my drying skin and that was when I was introduce to natural skincare products. I started to research and understand different herbs and ingredients that help with dry skin. I purchase my first mold and gather ingredients and made soap for myself and full in love with my skin again. My siblings started using my soaps also and loved it. That is when I started to realize that I am needed and I can actually help more people with skin conditions. At that moment Simply Beauty was born.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Simply Beauty represents the simplicity of beauty. Loving ourselves in its natural state. Enjoying what mother nature has to offer without chemicals that will harm our skin. I love to study and research herbs and plants to see what health benefits they offer us. How they benefit our skin on the inside and outside. These are the herbs our ancestors used before pharmaceuticals was even invented. We all grow up reading stories of the ancient Egyptians and what they use for cosmetics and illnesses. I enjoy reading books on different herbs, soap techniques and on plants. I love writing up formulas on my research and making great products for my customers. Don’t get me wrong it is not easy has it seems. I face many challenges, not all my formulas worked but I keep studying and creating till I get the results I’m looking for. I then have my family and friends try and get there feedback before it release to the public. I’m currently working on a new face wash for the last 4 months and it still not perfect. The lesson I have learned is PATIENCE. I want my products to be known to help people with their skin. To help them fall in love with there skin and that there is a natural product that works.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The beach. The smell of the ocean. Feel of the sand and the sunshine on your skin. Visiting the best breakfast place for brunch and plenty of laughter. Going to a nice lounge and listen to the local performers, poets, and enjoying old school music and drinks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Alexis Jalena has been a tremendous help. She has a great Facebook group for new skincare innovators. Any concerns or questions she will not hesitate to help. My great friend Geraldine Dorema an author has also helped me on this journey. There are plenty of times she listened to me cry out my frustrations. Rera a local health avocate and poet who has helped tremendously with using her platform to show case my products at her events.
