We had the good fortune of connecting with ShortyDooWop and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ShortyDooWop, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Outsiders think that DJs just show up and play music but the never see the behind the scenes. It starts with the many hours a week to download music. There is new music that gets released everyday and we have to keep up. It doesn’t stop there, we have to then organize the music within our laptop and set cue points. We have to keep our laptop up to date with the Kates software updates and always expanding memory.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from other DJs is my energy. I am on a natural high always through the music I play. I love to connect with the people and I am an entertainer. I don’t just play music, I give you an experience. It took a lot of practice to get to where I am today and I still have so much more to go. During the pandemic when DJs los all their gigs, I had to learn to reinvent myself and stayed relevant by doing livestreams. My energy is my brand. When you hear ShortyDooWop, you know it will be nothing but good vibes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week we would definitely spend a day at Hollywood Beach. So many great little spots on the boardwalk to get a drink while we are there. One of my favorite brunch spots on a Sunday is definitely El Tiesto Cafe because of its great Dominican cuisine with a live DJ. I really enjoy the on hour party boat on Bayside Marketplace. You get to enjoy the Miami skyline at night while dancing the night away. Wynwood would definitely be the place for great photos as the graffiti and aft is everywhere. I would definitely go shopping at the Sawgrass mills Mall as the outlet has so many great deals. There is just so much to do in South Florida.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout DJ Smash for being there since the moment I decided I wanted to learn how to DJ. He has supported me, mentored me, pushed me and encouraged me in this DJ journey. He never handed me anything and taught me the right way.
