We had the good fortune of connecting with Solange McKenzie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Solange, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
For me, it’s important for the next generation of tall girls and women to see themselves as confident and beautiful. I want them to know that they do not have to conform to the societal ideals of what a tall woman should be. The term “tall woman” doesn’t define them, they define the term for themselves. So in short, the next generation and the freedom they’ll have to be who they are is my legacy. I want people to remember that I’ll always be part of their support system, regardless of if I know them or not. I strongly believe that everybody can win and I want them to win. I am here to offer whatever support and guidance I can for anyone to achieve and be their best!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My goal is bringing visibility to tall women and girls like myself, staying focused on that goal has always pushed me through everything and brought me where I am today. Remembering that goal motivates me into perfecting my craft as a fashion influencer. It motivates me to keep sharing my story and knowledge. I want the world to know that tall women and girls are here to stay and we are powerful, fabulous, fearless and confident. I want them to know that the road will not always be easy but the recurring lesson is: there is only one you and the world needs that, so keep pushing through, go for everything you want and be who you want to be. I want the world to know that everybody is special, including us!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a multi faceted person so outside of fashion I love art, food, sports and adventure. One of my favorite things to do, especially with my sister, is go on excursions throughout the city. We pick a place to start then see where we end up; no expectations, no plan, just seeing where the universe takes us. We always find something new and exciting. So with that being said, I would probably start with a fun activity, maybe one of the many interactive museums or an escape room. Then the new experiences for both my friend and I begin. We’d get food somewhere new to the both of us and after, explore the city together.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First I give credit to God, I personally am Christian person so I will always give Him credit in my life story. I also credit my family, I wouldn’t be here without my mother or my father, my sister helps to keep me going, and the rest of my family is always there to support me. I also credit a few of my friends Christian Mosi, Zenobya Clarke, Florencia Lista Fennella Miller and Keiana Armani (who is also a mentor). Each of them have helped me to perfect my craft by sharing knowledge, collaborating on content creation, providing and sharing different opportunities and so much more.
