We had the good fortune of connecting with Soulpax and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Soulpax, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Since the beginning of Soulpax, we realized very quickly that it’s just about impossible to do everything by yourself and achieve the quality of work that we strive to provide. Team energy is honestly the biggest driving force behind any of our success. Even at the heart of the band, we songwriters (Julia Camayd and Julian Harris) rely on the uniquely individual skills that we have each cultivated throughout the years, and trust in each other’s abilities to bring forth the best possible song that we can. We rely on the skills of our acclaimed musicians: Ben Beal (Keys), Kalil Bohannon (Drums), and Sebastian Holmes (bass), to help us perform these songs in a well articulated and musically proficient way, so that our live shows can be the best they can be. Honestly, having these guys on stage with us, it’s hard not to be amazed at the life that they bring to our music in their own way. For all of our upcoming tracks, we place a lot of trust in one of Miami’s top producers: Andrés Daza. In all of our years as a band, we have never come across someone so willing to devote time and energy into really bringing the absolute best recordings to life. He treats each and every project with patience and care, as he finds ways to build around what we bring to him. This allows our songs to be translated in the most pristine way. To sum it all up: our success as a band is really owed to the people who we surround ourselves with. Trusting in the skills and work ethic of those around you really makes the whole journey quite a spectacular ride.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are a Miami based band focused on modernizing the classic R&B styles and we’re here to spread grooves and good vibes through out the multiverse. Drawing from our influences such as Earth Wind and Fire, Janelle Monae, and Hiatus Kaiyote, songwriters Julia Camayd (Vocals) and Julian Harris (Guitar) focus on bringing you hip vibes and catchy jams in a way that hasn’t been done before. Coupled with our songwriting, we at Soulpax focus on cultivating an immersive and interactive live show that will make even the shiest venue goer want to jump into the crowd and shake their hips.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Woh time to get things poppin’ over here! First we start things out with a hearty breakfast/ brunch from Babe’s Meat Counter. This place is such an amazing hidden gem. Babe’s is a classic style butcher shop where you can pick up an assortment of cured meats that are just astounding. They also make these killer sandwiches that will really make you sit back and rethink what you know about meat. After that we can work off breakfast by participating in one of our new favorite past times, rock climbing. The Edge Rock Gym provides an assortment of boulders and walls that will fit everyone from beginners to those who live and breath rock climbing. This activity will get your heart pumping in the best way and there really isn’t a place out there thats better than the Edge. The staff as well as the community are so friendly and encouraging that it’s really hard not to have a great time while over there. Then we can cool off by taking a dip at the beach. Not the over saturated, highly trafficked South Beach, but rather we can pick up some craft beers from the Down Stairs and head over to the more secluded sections of Virginia Key. From there you can really just vibe on your own time as you work on your tan. When the sun starts to set you also get an amazing view of the Miami skyline. Lastly we have to end our day by hitting up one of the many amazing music venues in Miami. In all honesty there are so many killer venues in the area that you’ll just have to try them all!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
With all the craziness of this year those who we would really like to shout out, aside from our band members and producer who were previously mentioned, are our friends/family as well as our community. While 2020 took a tole on everyone we were able to really connect with those around us on a new level and find alternative ways of collaboration. A prime example being our quarantine session videos featuring predominant members in the local music community such as Emily Maddox, Aaron Lebos and our good friends from Sunghosts. These little videos were based around doing split screen covers of some of our favorite tunes and focussed on showing off the abilities of these amazing artists. Even when things turned bad, such as when a years worth of our savings was stolen, we really felt the love and support from our community. People from all over helped get the word out and donated to help us make back what we had lost. Honestly without such supportive individuals we don’t know where we would be. We feel so grateful to be surrounded by such positive people and cannot wait until we can party with everyone at our live shows again.
