We had the good fortune of connecting with Stan Sherwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I personally believe without risk there is no growth in life or career. When you learn to except risk as an option of growth then making risky choices becomes habit. No matter the outcome of the so called risk you have takin it is still always a learning experience. There are pros in every situation we go through in life and career. As long as we learn and move on from our results will it pay off in the long run. Without taking risks or “living on the edge” I would not have the talents I have now or the discipline to use them 100 percent outright.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The art of welding….. for some welders it’s just a 9-5 job to pay the bills and for others as myself it is a way to express my artistic characteristics inside of myself. I always loved art but was never to good at getting the ideas out of my mind and onto the drawing board. Giving that my father was a welder and the best one at that I idolized him and wanted to be the same, this made it irrelevant that I must be the best to make him proud of me. At least this is what I told myself, regardless he was always proud of me but I didn’t realize this in the moment which was actually a good thing in the learning process. It pushed me to try and be the best all day everyday and to give welding everything I had. I traveled all over the country Welding all day and all night striving to be the best, the journey wasn’t easy but I had it instilled in me to “never quit”. It was a blessing after I realized that welding is 100 percent what I wanna do with my life and I could always rely and ask my father for any answers that need be. Other then that everything was hands on and experience proved that in this trait it takes a lot of patience and discipline to get to the higher standards that I have always held for myslef. The main thing I would like anyone to know about this trade or any would be to just never quit, if you want something bad enough then you will succeed. Always hold your expectations high and learn not to be to hard on yourself when it doesn’t work out that day. But there’s always tomorrow and you can go in with a fresh mind set and try again. “Never quit!”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I personally love the outdoors, whether it’s laying on the beach or spear fishing in pompano or to fresh water fishing in one of the hundreds of lakes in broward or dade county. Most likely have to make reservations at Gianni’s Italian restaurant on Atlantic in pompano beach for the best Italian I have ever tasted. Of course Wynwood in Miami is a must for a day out to experience and lay your eyes on some of the most magnificent paintings and wall morals you’ll ever see. Then why not hit south beach for some fun in the sun and to see some of the worlds most beautiful people. If your not to burned out from the beaches then you can walk across ocean drive in south beach to now experience the best nightlife you could ever ask for.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My father has instilled the morals and discipline it takes to achieve success. He was also a welder and had showed me all the in/outs of the trade and the skills it takes to not only make it as a welder but to be the best. Not only at your job but in life also, to carry those morals and traits with you whenever and wherever you go. He showed me the will of what it takes to never give up despite the harsh circumstances of the world we live in. To always push forward and to “never quit”
