We had the good fortune of connecting with the founders of CfC Miami, Sten and Amanda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sten, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
There’s a book titled, Your Mind Is What Your Brain Does for a Living by Steven J Fogel. A fantastic look into the functions of the brain and how the programming we experience during childhood can create self-defeating behavior. Ultimately that self-defeating behaviour restricts us from pursuing our true passion. Restricts us from taking the risk required to open a small business or work on your side hustle.

What should our readers know about your business?
Since the inception of CfC, we have been committed to the community and have firmly planted our feet in this city to support, impact and be a resource for creatives by providing opportunities toward professional and personal growth. And that’s what excites us the most, seeing our members flourish as creative business owners. The organization came together rather seamlessly and we quickly gained the interest of many creative small businesses. Our monthly gatherings were a great success and we enjoyed increasing attendance at our home base, WeWork in Wynwood. Our in person meetings reenforced the connections made between members and new comers so our greatest challenge has been the shift towards virtual meetings due to the pandemic. However, we have been able to keep the community engaged and continue to organize educational talks every month in a virtual setting with success. Our brand story is all about connection. We believe that our own professional and personal success is heightened through the connections we make and we serve as a conduit for the connections between small business owners in our network and beyond.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’re all about nature at CfC and Miami has some hidden gems. We’d start with a day out at Bill Baggs State Park located at the southern tip of Key Biscayne. We’d spend the day exploring its gorgeous beaches and historic light house. Then we’d head over to Garcia’s Seafood on the Miami River to enjoy some great food and views of all the boats passing by. After a well deserved nap we’d head over to the Anderson bar in the Mimo District for some cocktails and conversation. Then for a change a scenery, we would head over to Wynwood for some people watching and also visit a Wynwood staple, Wood Tavern.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
CfC Miami is an organization that is rooted in making connections. So my shoutout goes to Büro Miami, the co-working space where Amanda (CfC co-founder) and I made our connection which ultimately led to the creation of our nonprofit, Creatives for Connection.
