We had the good fortune of connecting with Taimy Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taimy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business is something I’ve always dreamed of. Growing up, I was always the host of my family events. You could always find me making sure everyone had a good time and helping decorate before guests arrived. I remember one of my friends was having a baby and I jumped at the opportunity to help her plan and decorate her baby shower, From concept to completion, I was responsible for coordinating the baby shower. I received great feedback from my friend and her guests. I knew at that moment that I wanted to be responsible for coordinating projects and events. I get sense of achievement when I see an event I helped organize reach a successful conclusion. With the encouragement of family and friends I decided to study Hospitality and Tourism Management to get a thorough understanding of the events industry. The more I learned, the more I wanted to share my creativity and event ideas. After years of helping my friends and family with their events,, I created Glam District Events to share my love of design and planning with my local community. It has been the most rewarding journey thus far.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel my company is unique in it’s own way. What I feel sets me apart from others is that each design is my own creation making it unique. Client’s bring me their ideas and inspirations for their events and I use my creativity and resources to deliver. It’s not always easy. Not everyone will believe in your craft or that you can deliver the results they seek. As long as you believe in yourself and stay true to yourself, you’re determined to succeed. I’ve learned that you with hard work, dedication, and consistency, you’re destined to reach your goals. I want the world to know that this brand is an example of that. I’ve pushed through many challenges on my journey to be where I am today. I was working as a paralegal and I knew I wanted to do events for a long time. After my 9am-5pm work schedule, I would come home and work on my personal and professional growth. I’d stay up late making event decorations. I sold my designs online and participated in local pop-up shops with fellow creators. As my client list grew over the years so did my business. Glam District Events soon became a full service event company. I am most proud my journey and professional growth.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being a Miami native is the best. There is so much fun things to do. If my friend where visiting town for a week long stay, we definitely have a good time. On the first day, I would take her to the beach and enjoy the Miami sun. It’s also one of my favorite things to do. I’m a foodie so we would stop for a bite to eat afterwards at Casablanca on the Bay for delicious seafood and ocean views. On day two, we would go to Kings Miami at the Doral City Center to for bowling, drinks, and music. On day three, I would take my friend to Key Biscayne for a nice scenic bike ride. On day four, we would visit the Wynwood Art District and visit the amazing art galleries. Of course, we’ll stop to eat at Bakan for tacos and Margaritas. My favorite mexican restaurant in Wynwood is Bakan. Day five of my friends visit to Miami would be spent shopping on Lincoln Road in South Beach for memorable souvenirs. Then we would head over to Adrienne Arst Center to enjoy a play. Day Six, I would spend at home with my friend reading, relaxing by the pool, and cooking meals on the bbq. One of my favorite things to do is spend time with family in friends at home cooking, listening to music, and catching up. On the last day of the visit to Miami I would take my friend to a nice lounge for additional relaxation, live music, and a cocktail, or two. I love days full of activities, seeing my city, interacting with locals and tourists, eating, and enjoying the outdoors.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this my Shoutout to my friends, family, and boyfriend Alex Davis. My mom, dad, sister, and brothers have always encouraged me to reach my goals. They are my biggest cheerleaders and always enjoy telling others about my business. It’s the sweetest thing to see and I love them so much. I appreciate the support of my friends and all the referrals I’ve received from them over the years because they believe in me so much. My boyfriend, Alex Davis is always right behind me cheering me on through all the challenges and successes. He always gives the best advise and always sharing ways for me to grow personally and professionally. He believes in me and my craft. Alex’s love and encouragement give me motivation to reach my goals. I am blessed and honored to have the best team of supporters. I am forever thankful for them and I dedicate this Shoutout to my team. I love you guys!
