We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanuj Amalean and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanuj, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I knew very early on in life that I wanted to be in control of my own future and be immersed in something
I’m passionate about. Once I gained enough experience in sewing and patternmaking I knew the next step on
my journey would be to start my own venture.
Looking at the Miami menswear scene, it was clear to me that this city needed a true bespoke tailor. There are
many that claim to be ‘bespoke’ but are anything but that. I wanted to step into this space to give the
community true tailoring expertise and develop my own style over time with special projects.
To me, being authentic and original are important aspects behind my motivation. Of course, making suits and
dress attire is the bread and butter behind the company; but if I take a step and back and look at the broader
view, I see that this is an opportunity for me to blend my creativity & craft to develop new styles of high-end
fashion and accessories. My aspiration long-term is to become a luxury fashion house that creates timeless
and classical wear for everyone.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a former mechanical engineer by study and trade. Switching from that career to this one was a slow and
uphill task. It took a lot of patience and dedication to get here. I first started out sewing t-shirts and very soon
I met two master tailors that I studied under.
Bespoke tailoring is an art that is meticulous and requires patience. It’s something that isn’t taught very much
anymore and is hard to find instruction. The whole idea behind it is to draw the clients garment from scratch
on manilla paper (also called the ‘pattern’) and cut the cloth and baste it together by hand. Then fit the
garment over the client at least twice whilst making adjustment along the way. Our bespoke garments are
drawn by me onsite at my atelier in Miami.
I want Miami to know that in today’s world of fast fashion and smoke & mirrors, there are still those who
value true craftsmanship, authenticity, and want to give each client the attention and experience they seek.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Although I do enjoy the loud and exciting parts of Miami occasionally, I am more of a patron of the quiet
aspects of what the city has to offer: wine bars, speakeasies, local parks, markets, and historic venues.
I would take someone to Vizcaya Gardens, show them around Little Havana, Coral Gables, and stop by Tinta
y Cafe for a quick bite. For evening activities, I would definitely show someone the sophisticated ambiance of
venues such as Faena and Apothecary 330.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
