We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Forrest and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tara, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was “Am I really gonna do this?” Throughout my whole life I’ve always admired people in business and the risks they take to pursue their dreams. During 2020 I decided to take that leap of faith as well. I had been entertaining the thought of becoming a Loan Signing Agent and Wedding Officiant for awhile and seeing the state of the world at that time was a wake up call for me. It pushed me to take the risk of starting my own notary business and to not look back with the regret of “What if?”
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Mobile Notary, Loan Signing Agent, and Officiant in the Broward County area. My services include refinances, purchases, HELOC’s, seller side closings, loan modifications, elopements, I-9 verification, and general notary work.
I feel that what sets me apart from others is that I always provide exceptional customer service, accuracy, and professionalism to every signing appointment that I do. I’m proud to be a small business owner and this year I’m excited to add wedding elopements to my services.
I was already a Notary so it wasn’t that difficult to transition into a Loan Signing Agent, but what was a challenge was the fear of the unknown. Lessons that I’ve learned along the way is to do it scared. Things don’t always need to be perfect and if you don’t get started you’ll never gain experience. Now when I have appointments I look forward to meeting new people and discovering new places. Just go for it!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the beach so hitting up restaurants near there would be ideal. A couple that I like are SoBe Vegan (I’m not vegan, but their queso burger is amazing), Lucky Fish because it makes you feel like you’re on vacay and it’s next to the pier, Lona Cocina Tequileria (love the crab guac and good music), and Shooters (it’s not on the beach, but still a good vibe and view).
There’s also this really good mom and pop Mexican restaurant in Plantation called Chilangos with the best birria tacos ever! We would definitely hit them up. Even though this isn’t in Broward, the Van Gogh Immersive Experience is pretty cool to check out. I’d also invite them to my Zumba class!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a couple of shoutouts. As far as books “You Are A Badass” by Jen Sincero is a great book about getting out of your own way (and is also hilarious). I’d highly recommend reading it if you haven’t yet. The next two I don’t know personally, but I’d like to shoutout Mark Wills and Bill Soroka aka “Notary Coach”. I’m so thankful for all the content they put out about the loan signing business.
My long time friends Lorena and Kellymar for always showing their love, support and encouragement. Also, aside from having a notary business I recently started instructing Zumba and I’d like to shoutout Adam for giving me my first instructor opportunity at The Royal Peacock Studio.
