We had the good fortune of connecting with tasha dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi tasha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
At first, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, then my mother gave me the idea to just do candles for her. Then i started making them for my co-workers, after that, I started to develop my own kind of candle and the scents i would love.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of a Miami based soy candle wax company. I make candles, wax melts, and room sprays from natural and vegan products. it wasn’t easy, as I had to learn how to make candles, how to do taxes, how to order things from overseas, who is my customer, what scents do I pick, what vessel look do I want. How do I get funding for my business? learning things on your own and from the ground up while you have a day job, is very challenging. The lessons I’ve learned do not try to compete with already up and running companies. go and build at the pace you can afford and have time for.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to brunch, then we would go jet skiing. after that a massage on the beach, then we would go to the beach. after that go and experience south beach nightlife, some drinks, walking around. I like wet willies. Also showing her Wynwood.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out to my mother who believed in me and my dreams of being a business owner.
