We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiana Meira and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatiana, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Being in the events and hospitality industry you’re always go go go. I’ve been in the industry for 15 years and have always been like the energizer bunny. Miami doesn’t have an “off season anymore so in the industry you’re always “on”. When the pandemic hit I was forced to take a pause and realized there’s a power in the pause. It made me realize that you can still be successful in your career and at the same time make a conscious effort to set boundaries and enjoy family time, personal relationships and self care. I started setting time aside for all the things I love and ensuring that there is a healthy balance between work and personal life. It’s the little changes like not checking emails when I’m not working, turning off my notifications when I’m spending time with friends and family, that make a difference.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m the director of Day life and programming at 1 Hotels South Beach. I work with brands to conceptualize and produce events in all our venues based on music, food and beverage, mindfulness and wellness. My passion, especially during COVID, is to create mindful moments, intentional events, focused on connection and community. I started 15 years ago straight out of college. I began my career in public relations, then moved to hospitality working in catering & events for multiple hotels in south beach. From there I worked my way to programming and events at 1 Hotel South Beach. Outside of the 1 Hotel South Beach, I work closely with women organizations to promote and highlight women empowerment and creating a safe space for women to be themselves.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was born in Brazil, but raised in Miami my entire life. Being in hospitality, there’s so many places I love to support. I love what’s happening in our community and what we stand for and try to support any local business or anyone trying to make a difference in the community. Some of my favorite places and things to do: I would start the day with Yoga or Pilates at Agni Miami Go paddle boarding in Biscayne Bay Lunch at Mandolin or Wave at 1 Beach Club Sunset drinks at The Standard Dinner at KYU End the night listening to live music at HeartLand
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to make a shoutout to all the strong amazing women that have played a role in my life in supporting me and empowering me personally and professionally.
