Meet Tatiana Mosquera: Custom Shoe Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiana Mosquera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatiana, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I initially began Pisos by Tatz as my hobby. I had always been very artistic and painting was one of my greatest passions. While in college I stopped getting messy painting on canvas because I had no space in my apartment. And many of you may ask how I got the idea of painting on shoes. Well, truth be told I had a pair of shoes which I bought at Zara and I would always get multiple compliments on how cool they came out. I would always have to say that I bought them and didn’t paint them! This is when the idea of Pisos by Tatz slowly began, I thought it would be cool to make a nice pair of shoes which I could say I had painted myself. I started with a pair of sharpies in my college apartment painting shoes for my friends and me, and slowly Pisos grew on to what it is today. Today, I strive to create meaningful pieces with my greatest passion. Oh! and the word Pisos means customs shoes a.k.a the coolest shoes out there.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There are many people out there that customize products but what sets me apart is the connection I have with every one of my clients. I use my talent to communicate my client’s feelings, family bonds, and/or personalities. I want the world to know that Pisos by Tatz is a brand that believes in people. A brand that strives to create uniqueness and unite people. What I love most about my job is being able to hear everyone’s story, connect with them, and later design a shoe with huge meaning. I truly hope my clients love working with me as much as I enjoy working with them because truth be told they’re all awesome!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting Miami, I would call off work for her because a week isn’t enough! I would start the week by taking her to Lincoln Road and ending the day at Juvia for some food and drinks. During the week, let’s not forget South Beach. My favorite place to get a tan and later take a stroll down Ocean Drive. In between the week, deserts are a MUST! I wouldn’t let her leave before trying The Salty Donut (my favorite).
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Victor Porfidio, a Venezuelan DJ. I will never forget the day I posted a story with my friends dancing to his new song “To my heart.” That same night he saw the story of the dance-wearing Pisos and reaches out to me through DM. This was honestly the most incredible feeling. (Mind you, I literally had less than 1K followers). As you can imagine, the smile extended from cheek to cheek. The next morning Porfidio and I had a phone call where he proposed a collaboration with Pisos by Tatz to launch a giveaway for his new song. Porfidio is someone who I admire and I thank him for believing in me and allowing me to begin the journey of what became my biggest dream- to see EVERYONE wearing pisos.
