We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatianna Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatianna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As a young woman growing up, we were conditioned to believe that in order to be successful, and desirable we (society) had to conform to these standards that were set forth by society. We created a list of things people had to possess in order to be considered beautiful. I want to change that, in fact I want to completely dismantle this ideology that in order to be beautiful, you must look like this so called standard of beauty. NO MORE! Here at Traplashes & Co. we want to shake things up, we aim to create a safe haven for individuals, no matter what community they reside in to feel loved and appreciated for their work, and their individuality. A place where creatives can be just that, creatives. A place free of labels and a place for individuals to feel free to be whatever and whoever they choose. We are 90’s and Space Themed cosmetics brand serving beauty and inclusion for all.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I graduated college in 2019 with a degree in business. At first I wanted to be a chef, for as long as I could remember. I wanted to create plates that people all over the world would want to eat. I guess I have always been really creative, I started drawing, designing, writing etc in middle school too, and new I was more of a creative person then technical. So originally I was going to go to Culinary School and be come a chef, halfway through High School, I realized that I should get my degree in business and then go to culinary school, because then I would be able to run my own restaurant. So I changed my mind and went to college on the verge of that dream. Midway through my passions changed and I decided to go into beauty. At first there were a lot of obstacles surrounding my business, I wasn’t getting the orders that I thought I would, the marketing I was doing wasn’t good enough, etc. But I kept pushing because I knew that I wanted something better for me and my family. In the back of my mind I kept repeating that all of the greats failed too and they kept on trucking. So that’s what I did. I was taught many lessons, one that I would take aways from this is PATIENCE. If there is one thing that you take from this article, it is patience. Your business will not grow over night, not saying that it can’t but saying that sometimes it takes time. It takes the love of patience, to keep you pushing even when you feel like things aren’t letting up, because all it takes is that one viral post/video to make it all worth it. One thing I want for people to know about my business is that we will always be a safe place for you.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout my family, but especially my little sister Nyla. She has been with me every step of the way and helped me in creating one of our very popular lines, The Flavored Duchesses. My little sister was diagnosed with Lupus at a very young age, and given the toll that it takes on her body sometimes she feels completely beat up and tired, and sometimes she just feels discouraged. As her big sister, it is my job to be there for her when she falls, or even when she feels insecure about anything. I wanted her to be a witness to something beautiful, something magical, something inspirational. I wanted her to know that no matter what happens and what she is going through, she will always be beautiful, and that she now has helped hundreds of other women and girls feel the same way.
