We had the good fortune of connecting with The Allegorist – artist name Anna Jordan – real name and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Allegorist – artist name, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I believe balance is vital, in both micro and macro perspectives. It’s easy to observe in nature that everything navigates towards a balanced state in a healthy setting. Everything will break and disappear sooner or later if it is out of balance. For instance, living in an unbalanced way can easily affect our health in a bad way. There is also a spiritual aspect to what balance means. Purely rational thinking won’t get us there. I think today’s society forgot about it and we have to reclaim that true wisdom.

In my art, I like to play with contrasts and their balance. I believe opposite elements cannot exist without the other, so they complement and compensate each other. There is no light without darkness, no improvement without error, no sunrise without a sunset and no life without death. They all must exist, just in the right relation to each other.

In my latest studio album, ‘Blind Emperor’ balance is playing a key role. It is an epic, cinematic, choral, and ambient techno album and tells the journey, to fight for the truth of oneself. If you bend for the easy and give up your own truth, you might gain something out of it, but you have also lost everything already. I think that you have to be in power and let yourself be guided by many elements like knowledge, feelings, and intuition. The right balance of all these elements will lead to the right thoughts, wisdom, and actions.

This is what good life with meaning means to me personally as well. I try to implement this way of thinking or feeling and decision-making on a daily basis. I’m aiming for the right balance of all things, to have a life that feels good and right to me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was always looking for a deeper understanding of life, and ways to express my thoughts and feelings. I’m interested in a holistic way of thinking, ideas, concepts, questions and possible answers.

I’m calling this approach an exercise of creative thinking and nurturing intuitions. This has been also the foundation of my art and personal life as well.

I have always approached art and music in this multi-layered way, with questions looking for answers and the desire to express what is impossible to express otherwise. I like to use fiction to explore philosophical topics. This is how I became The Allegorist, an explorer of meanings via speculative fiction and a creator of stories told through electronic music and other media.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The most interesting places in my opinion are those with which we make or have an emotional bond. These are different places for each of us, and it is part of our purpose to find those places. Some places can lead to other places and so we build our path. I think it’s important that everyone is looking for their own path individually and finds the places that are calling them. You can start anywhere, like just the main train station.

I also think it’s interesting to visit the places we are able to imagine and/or exist somewhere else, we cannot physically reach but observe or feel.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I traveled a few months ago to the Death Valley National Park. I’ve been reading about the history and the indigenous people who have lived there, and some of them still live. I find it inspiring how the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe feel connected to their land and nature. One of their elders said: „In our religion, we don’t practice within four walls. Our religion is written in all these mountains and in the valleys, in the waters, in the wildlife – everything that belongs to the Creator. So, we’re in church every day.“

In this article, I would like to credit everyone who is fighting for equally distributed natural resources, for a spiritually connected, balanced world and for a healthier and sustainable way of human living.
