Meet Tony Redd | Christian Rapper

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tony Redd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tony, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always used to say i desired to start my own business because I saw my parents Jason and Taqueena Witherspoon in entrepreneurship a lot but I was still playing basketball at Gardener Webb. Many life changing events happened on my end spiritually, mentally, and physically which led me to ask God what was my purpose on this Earth, and he told me “Get your pen and pad” so i did. He then began giving me different business ventures and the last thing he told me was “2 Tone, there can be two sides to your story. Trust in Him.” I just took it and ran with it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a Christian rapper, and I’ve been creating music behind the scenes for the past year. Now, I’m beyond excited to finally share my testimony with the world. I haven’t always been in this place of hope—there was a time when my life felt so dark that I thought about ending it all. But God stepped in. He saved me, and now He’s using me as a vessel to reach those who feel hopeless, lost, or just in need of light.
Honestly, I never planned to start rapping. My brother, Keondre Newman, kind of peer-pressured me into it. Then God connected me with Djuana Lewis, who heard my story and my music and was deeply moved. She’s now helping me build my brand and grow in this calling.
I’m still far from where I want to be, but I know this journey isn’t easy. It takes consistency, hard work, and resilience. I keep going by leaning on God’s grace and strength every single day. I remind myself why I started—this is for the people who have no more hope, the ones who think there will never be a brighter day.
I’ve learned that if I don’t wake up each day determined to use the gifts God gave me, nothing will happen. Faith without works is dead. My mission is to let the world know that we are Kingdom—we are the light of the world. No matter how bad your situation is, God can turn it around if you humble yourself, let go of pride, and fully trust Him.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a pretty laid-back guy, so we’d start at Optimist Hall to try out some of the amazing restaurants there. From there, we could take a stroll through downtown, maybe hop on some scooters and explore the city. Since I’m big on shopping, we’d definitely make a stop at the malls and outlets. And for a little extra fun, we could go bowling or hit up an arcade.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God, Taqueena and Jason Witherspoon, Keondre Newman, DJuana Lewis
