We had the good fortune of connecting with Tori Angeline and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tori, why did you pursue a creative career?
Im committed to exploring various ways of expressing my creativity and experimenting with a variety of mediums. Beyond this, I enjoy connecting with other creatives and seeing how my artwork resonates with collectors. Sometimes my least favorite artwork is something that resonates highly with collectors. My view and the audiences view can be so polar, I always find it intriguing when i get a glimpse into that.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When i started painted many years ago, i took a more classical approach with oil paints. My subject matter began with still life, then evolved to portraiture, which is largely the main focus of my practice today. Eventually, I moved into more of the pop art realm, and I began to explore the use of brighter and bolder colors and transitioned almost completely from oil to acrylic paints.
The biggest challenge I had, was identifying and engaging my target audience, Pop art is ever-changing, so being able to maintain a connection to popular culture while remaining unique and distinct is always my greatest personal test.
The lesson I learned along the way is to stay true to my style while evolving. Consistency is key in the art world.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Having grown up in Miami and lived in NYC for many years, there are tons of places where I’d recommend. Some aren’t even open anymore unfortunately. My first stop would be at the beach, then somewhere in the Grove.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I don’t have a particular person or group, rather I think it’s important for me to recognize everyone over the years who has believed in my work, encouraged my creative process, and has supported my vision. Some of these people have come and gone over the years but their impact has had a profound influence on my evolution as an artist.
