We had the good fortune of connecting with Trevor Groll and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trevor, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I view risk as an essential part of growth — not something to avoid, but something to navigate thoughtfully. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising and Retail Marketing from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, I wasn’t entirely sure what direction I wanted to take. Instead of waiting for the “perfect” opportunity, I took a chance and reached out on LinkedIn to SEE Eyewear’s West Coast Regional Manager at the time.

That risk led me to move across the country and start my journey with SEE as an Optical Stylist, splitting my time between the Glendale and Beverly Hills, California locations. Less than a year later, I stepped into my first leadership role as Store Manager in San Jose. Most recently, I took another leap — relocating once again to manage SEE’s high-volume Miami Beach location in March of last year.

Every step of my career has involved risk, but I’ve found that leaning into those moments has opened doors, accelerated my growth, and strengthened my confidence in leading teams and driving success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career has been anything but traditional — and that’s part of what makes it meaningful. After graduating from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Retail Marketing, I knew I wanted to be part of something creative and people-driven, but I wasn’t exactly sure what that looked like. I took a leap and reached out to SEE Eyewear’s West Coast Regional Manager on LinkedIn — and that risk opened a door I never expected.

I started as an Optical Stylist in Glendale and Beverly Hills, California. I immersed myself in the brand, the styling, and the connection we build with our customers. Less than a year later, I was promoted to manage SEE’s San Jose location. Most recently, I was offered the opportunity to relocate across the country and manage SEE’s Miami Beach store on Lincoln Road — one of the most vibrant and high-traffic locations in the company. Every move has come with its own set of challenges, but each has helped me evolve professionally and personally.

What sets me apart is my ability to lead with both creativity and structure. I’m not just focused on sales — I’m focused on building a strong team culture, creating memorable customer experiences, and representing SEE as a fashion-forward, inclusive, and elevated brand. I bring energy, adaptability, and a strong understanding of what it means to manage a business, not just a storefront.

The road here wasn’t always easy. Moving to new cities alone, stepping into leadership roles at a young age, and learning the ins and outs of a specialized field like optical all required grit. But I believe pressure creates diamonds — and I’ve learned to embrace challenges as the very thing that shapes my growth.

What I want people to know about me is that I’m passionate about what I do, and I take pride in building something bigger than myself. Whether it’s developing a team, strengthening a brand, or helping someone see the world more clearly — I’m all in.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First things first — we’d kick off the trip with Sunday brunch at Nikki Beach. It’s a total vibe with music, beachside views, and bottomless drinks — the perfect way to set the tone for the week. Afterward, we’d walk down Ocean Drive to take in the Art Deco district and stop by the beach at 12th Street, Miami’s iconic LGBTQ-friendly spot with fun, inclusive energy and great people-watching.

For dinner that night, we’d go to Planta — the ambiance is amazing, and even non-vegans love the food. Afterward, we’d grab cocktails at The Broken Shaker, a laid-back, hidden gem with tropical drinks and an artsy crowd.

Midweek, we’d spend a day exploring Wynwood — from the murals and galleries to bites at 1-800-Lucky and Zak the Baker, then maybe hop into a boutique or two. I’d definitely swing them by Lincoln Road to visit my store at SEE Eyewear and introduce them to the team.

One of the beach days would be at South Pointe Park — locals love it, it’s scenic, and the views of the cruise ships passing by are unmatched. Lunch at Smith & Wollensky on the water is a must.

For nightlife, we’d mix it up — maybe a high-energy night at LIV, a more underground experience at Do Not Sit on the Furniture, and a chill night at Serena Rooftop at the Moxy. If the mood strikes, we’d swing by Twist for a late-night dance session — it’s a Miami staple and always a good time.

We’d also spend a day in Little Havana, sipping cafecitos at Versailles, dancing at Ball & Chain, and catching some live Latin jazz. Another day might be reserved for total relaxation — hitting the spa at The Standard or a sunset boat cruise through Biscayne Bay.

Miami is a city full of contrast — it’s luxe and laid-back, bold and beautiful, and always alive. Whether you want art, fashion, food, beach, or community, this city has it all. I’d make sure my best friend left feeling refreshed, inspired, and already planning their return.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely wouldn’t be where I am without the support and guidance of others. First, I want to shout out the West Coast Regional Manager at SEE Eyewear who took a chance on me when I was fresh out of college and unsure of my path. That connection changed the trajectory of my career and introduced me to a company I’ve grown deeply passionate about.

I also have to thank the leaders and mentors I’ve worked under at SEE — those who challenged me, trusted me with responsibility, and gave me room to grow. From my early days in Glendale and Beverly Hills to managing stores in San Jose and now Miami Beach, I’ve learned so much by being surrounded by strong, experienced individuals who genuinely care about the brand and their teams.

On a more personal note, I want to recognize my close circle — friends and family who’ve supported every big move, career shift, and risk I’ve taken. Their encouragement has been a constant source of motivation and stability.

Success isn’t a solo journey, and I’m lucky to have had people in my corner every step of the way.
