Hi Vanessa, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Hi! I’m Vanessa, a nature lover and sustainability advocate. I’m the proud founder and Chief Executive Officer of Green Tomato, a first-of-its-kind sustainable farmers market delivery service that sources fresh produce from Florida farms and delivers it to your door. I’ve lived in many cities and countries, including Paris, London, Washington DC, Seattle, Baltimore, and Caracas, Venezuela. Moving around so much has given me a flexibility of sorts and the ability to connect with all types of people, shaping who I am today.

My background is in International Relations, and I left a career in Washington D.C. in Development because I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I describe myself as joyful, a risk-taker who enjoys the challenges that come with change, and someone who doesn’t take things too seriously.

Green Tomato is a subscription-based company with a mission to deliver fresh fruits and veggies to customers in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties directly from Florida farms. We work with farmers and food producers to source fresh local produce, high-quality meats, plant-based proteins, dairy products, and sustainably sourced pantry staples.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Green Tomato is an online platform for small farms and businesses to showcase their products and reach our community. We’ve transformed into a farmers market delivery service where customers can buy directly from farms and small businesses, instead of big box retailers, and in turn, support our communities. Our subscription-based service offers fruit and veggie bags in four different sizes, with delivery options of weekly, biweekly, or monthly. We provide access to unique products not typically found in supermarkets, like organic mushrooms, local dairy, grass-fed beef, organic hummus, vegan meat, and much more. We’re constantly adding new local vendors. Unlike a traditional CSA, we partner with several different farms throughout South Florida to bring a curated weekly selection of fresh seasonal produce straight to our customers’ doors. Our service is flexible, allowing customers to skip, pause, or cancel anytime by reaching out to our customer service. What sets us apart is our dedicated customer service team, who are always available to answer any questions you might have.

Our mission is to help our customers lead a more sustainable lifestyle. We use insulated reusable tote bags in each delivery to minimize packaging and our environmental impact.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Absolutely, planning a week-long trip to Miami for a best friend sounds like a fantastic idea! Miami is full of vibrant culture, stunning beaches, delicious food, and exciting nightlife. I would wake up early and take my friend to Caracas Bakery in MiMo, one of my favorite spots in the city for a coffee and a cahito de jamon. Then we would go to a yoga class at my favorite yoga studio, Wynwood Yoga, and drive to the North Miami Beach and enjoy the afternoon there. At night, I would take my friend for a drink and to watch the sunset at Level 6 in Coconut Grove. We would end our night having chicken wings at Tam Tam in Downtown!
