We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Veronica, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
I would say understanding that I don’t have to walk this path alone and figure everything out on my own. I can ask for support, accept my limitations as well as my strengths, seek co-creation and hire the right people.
For example joining a community of female entrepreneurs in Miami as well as hiring a financial advisor, when everyone questioned me, were both game changing decisions.
I notice it all comes down to understanding my needs as an entrepreneur and seeking solutions; one skill I’m great at.
Also, learning how to maintain a CEO mentality. This helps me when I catch myself doing something that dims my light or drains my energy to remember to check in with myself an find a solution that keeps me focused in my zone of genius. When I find myself investing way too much energy into something I either don’t know much about or I’m not talented at, I know its time to delegate or re-asses the task. Allowing myself to take a step back, breathe and seek a solution allows me to focus my energy into what I’m skilled and talented at, rather than drain my energy by forcing myself.
Resistance creates either growth or stagnation. Resistance is valuable information.
I’ve also noticed that solutions aren’t always based on hiring someone, sometimes it involves having a hard conversation, setting a limit or asking for help.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve learned that the entire process of creating a business or a brand, is just a personal journey of self discovery. As I’ve learned to see the entrepreneurial path as a set of experiences where I can learn to love myself even more, its taken away the pressure of how things should look. Achievements and results are secondary to what I can discover about myself in the process. I’ve discovered that all entrepreneurship is, is a set of opportunities to practice self awareness and self compassion. So I can see, for example, how I handle challenges and adversities or how I face my own limitations.
Like everything in life, it’s a learning opportunity. It’s our choice to move through it with joy, grace and curiosity or with self criticism and lack mentality.
Staying open, curious and flexible has helped me in the process of creation, be it an art piece or a business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would create a balance between nature, culture and food. Maybe include a little roadtrip.
No trip to Miami is complete, for me, without a visit to the beach and la Calle 8.
– Visit the Vizcaya Museum
– Go for a concert / event at The Olympia Theater
– Visit The Perez Art Museum for views and culture
– Go for a Movie at the Tower Theater in Calle 8 followed by salsa dancing in Ball and Chain
– Rent Bicycles and ride along South Beach
– Go for brunch or do a Picnic in Coconut Grove
– Spend a full day at the Beach
– Go for coffee and a stroll to Books and Books in Coral Gables
– Eat sushi at Paperfish in Brickell and Visit a rooftop.
– Go for Venezuelan Food at the Yellow Green Farmers Market
– Visit La Casita in Coral Gables for Cuban Food

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My self-love coach, who became a dear friend : Mio Santana.
Her guidance and teachings have been the stable base from which I’ve been able to build a life for myself with patience and self-compassion. The work I did with her around self love truly prepared with the right skill set to continue on this path as an entrepreneur.
Also, I wouldn’t have met Mio if it weren’t for an amazing group of female entrepreneurs called “Anima Collective” – originally named “Las Comadres”. Where I met so wonderful women, some of them have become close friends.
Mio, was the person that did the onboarding call the day I joined this group. We instantly connected and have been friends ever since. ny
