We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica Winters and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Veronica, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor for my business and art is my work ethic. I’ve been working incredibly hard for many years first learning how to draw and paint, then learning how to take that and make it a business. I built a career in art education with teaching, writing books and producing video courses for online education besides evolving as an artist.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I struggled with my purpose. When I graduated from high school in Moscow I didn’t have a clear path laid down in front of me. After relocating to the U.S. introverted and without a clear direction, I chose going to art schools to fill in the gap I felt inside me. When I turned to painting in my early twenties to pass the time, I’ve already had a college degree in business administration but I missed on big aspirations or plans for myself. I felt a huge disconnect between this profession and my soul. I couldn’t imagine living in some office space, performing tasks and crunching numbers. I had a different personality and a different calling. I took some art classes at a local community college to do something different from my regular family responsibilities. My immediate goal was to become good technically. And I spent years searching for classical type art education, commuting and learning. At some point I knew that I finally gained ground at representing the world faithfully on canvas and I needed to turn inward more to create personal art. That’s how the artist’s personality or the painting ‘style’ is truly shaped.

I fell into painting because I couldn’t speak. I began painting stories in portraits and figures as a way to process my emotions. Today in color, figure and symbols, I explore a relationship between the perceived beauty and beauty inside us, between presence and absence, loneliness and solitude. I investigate my understanding of identity and feelings of loss, love, and hope. I paint the spiritual and the sublime symbolized in a female figure. Art helped me discover who I am today. By doing what you love can set you up to become free and loving.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d suggest spending a couple of days in Miami Beach staying in the Art Deco district. There is fun vibe and atmosphere along the ocean front and at cafes and bars in the ocean drive and collins ave area. I’d visit the Everglades state park if there is time to drive short distances and you want to do something with the kids besides going to Miami zoo.
I like historic houses and Vizcaya Museum fits the bill. Such a beautiful house inspired by Italian and European architecture.. It has a collection of furniture and art. It also has a garden that’s fun to walk through in winter. The same industrialist owned now called Deering estate that you could visit if interested in art and history.
A touristy place to see is Bayfront park.
