We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wendy, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I do have two, now older sons. One is a teacher and the other works for a homeless organization in the area. I’d like to believe I instilled in them the importance of creativity and a sense of humor in life. Creativity isn’t just for art. It can be used in every facet of life. Instilling, encouraging and nurturing creativity is one of my driving forces both in my art business and in my daily life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve gone through many shifts on my art journey. I started out strictly doing meditation art. After awhile I became fascinated with tessellation and optical illusions so I started playing with that. Sometime after that, I took a few classes with Larry Elmore (fantasy artist) started doing Sci-fi cons, taking my work there. I still do 2 in the area. Then, when the pandemic hit, I spent the time the art center was close, learning how to use resin. After 12 years of my art journey, I finally found what I truly love doing and what I feel captures my creativity. Now, I combine them ALL into pieces that are truly unique. I’m still finding my voice but, I’m where I want to be with my journey.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I don’t really get out much. I have two studios now, plus teaching, plus shows. But, of nearby places I love – the Native American Museum and the World War 2 museum. So we’d do something like that, then movie and dinner. Maybe a play if there was something we wanted to see at the Kennedy Center. And of course, my studio at the Workhouse Arts Center.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Besides my husband, kids and parents – I’d have to say the Workhouse Arts Center here in Lorton VA. I came here to help a friend with their business, not knowing really I was an artist myself. The people here saw my potential and encouraged me to commit to pursuing it myself. I’ve been here ever since. Without that, I am unsure if I’d be on this path.
