We had the good fortune of connecting with Yael Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yael, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
As cliche as it sounds, doing what I love and being surrounded by the people I love makes me happy. I’ve worked for as long as I could remember. I have been a cashier, a waitress, a manager, sales rep, you name it, I’ve done it. However, I find myself happiest when I am applying makeup on myself or others and boosting their confidence after they take a look in the mirror. Being creative is a part of me and I get to share it with the world through makeup and beauty.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a makeup artist. I have always been into makeup, I literally had Sephora in my bathroom. I never went to beauty school, but I am a self taught makeup artist. Some people just have that touch I guess. I was always complimented on my work on myself or others. I have been doing friends makeup since I can remember and that’s where it all started. Being good at makeup always came easy to me, the hard part was marketing myself. I’m still learning that. Everyday I learn something new and its truly amazing. I hope to keep on growing within this industry and to become someone big in the beauty industry, that would be a dream come true!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in a place where people vacation….Florida! I love it here. If my best friend were visiting, which they have done, I’ve taken them around South Florida, to different beaches, yummy restaurants, but also adventured to central Florida and went to Disney. There is so much to do in Florida and it is such a large state with many tourist activities. Lets not forget the keys for a perfect weekend getaway!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person who motivates me daily and supports all my dreams is my amazing husband. Without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Any time I have a new business idea, he’s standing right alongside me. However, I think he knew about my makeup potential before I saw it myself. He has pushed me to go towards the beauty industry because my hands have this gift.
