We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Villegas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica, what inspires you?
There’s so many things that inspire me on a daily basis. From nature, to music, to quotes, friends and family, and even strangers, I like to start every day with an open mind. That way I’m open and receptive to anything new that can spark an idea or motivate me to push forward with something that might be scaring me. There is no one thing I can label as the cause for my inspiration. It varies daily but what does remain constant is a curious mentality that allows me to see everything with a different set of eyes.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For me, I’m all about connections and building relationships. I think that’s what I like most about social media, being able to connect with others even from afar, whether you know them or not. Building a sense of community, connecting at a deeper level and sharing each other’s concerns, goals, struggles, dreams, is so empowering. At the same time, being vulnerable is not always easy, so it does take time to open up sometimes. Plus, being on social media 24/7 can be highly draining, which is why disconnecting and prioritizing self-care is also very important. If there’s one thing I’d like the world to know about me is that I love connecting with others. I’m always open to chatting, working on goals together, and helping you in the best way I can. As a true extrovert, I thrive on being surrounded by people (online and offline) so I genuinely love getting to know others and being a part of their journey. The goal behind Dear Moscato is chatting as if we were sitting on the couch drinking some wine and cheering to what the future holds. That’s what I hope to accomplish through my platform!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’ve followed me on Instagram you know I have an obsession with Pura Vida. It’s a delicious restaurant, super healthy, beautifully furnished, and overall just so aesthetically pleasing. Living in Miami, I can’t have a friend over and not take them to the beach (weather permitting, of course since we do happen to have some crazy storms frequently). There’s something about the ocean, the sand, the sun, that makes me love living in Miami. I’m also a big fan of spending time in the Design District, I think it’s so beautiful, has amazing restaurants, and it’s very instagrammable, of course. There’s a few secret (maybe they’re not secret?) spots like the coolest, most colorful parking lot that is a perfect backdrop for pictures. Speaking of instagrammable places, Wynwood is a great place to get the perfect shot in front of the coolest walls and sculptures. If you’re in the mood to shop, I’m a huge fan of OAK Miami, a boutique owned by the sweetest ladies ever and it has the cutest items from clothes to home. I’d also recommend Merrick Park, an outdoor mall with the best stores, restaurants, and it’s pet friendly! Overall Miami is so fun and luckily there’s always something happening!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think so many people deserve credit and recognition for helping me get to where I am today. From my college Consumer Marketing professor who encouraged me to think out of the box and do something I love, to my college mentor who works on social media and inspired me to pursue a career in that field, to my friends and family who motivate me every day to do better, there is no one person I can credit for all of it. Even the books I’ve read like You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero or Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert, and Rachel Hollis’ Made for More documentary, they’ve all been an essential piece of the puzzle. The one commonality they all have is finding yourself, loving yourself, and fighting hard to be that person you want to be.
