We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanya Patron, PA-C and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tanya, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I would have to say out of simple frustration with my industry. I’ll refer to a quote that states “Dissatisfaction is a symptom of ambition. It’s the coal that fuels the fire”. That was true for all 3 of my businesses. I recently opened my own medical practice called Selfie Aesthetic. I wanted to provide a forward thinking concept utilizing technology that really focuses on the positivity of injectables, as well as the individualized experience from start to finish. We live in a time where #selfies are the norm and yet so many of us still do not feel comfortable taking them. I also wanted to make sure that each patient was taken care of on a more personal level. I did not want a waiting room full of patients waiting for hours to be seen or rushed through their appointments once they were. I also wanted to focus back on the education and to really break the stigma of getting injectables to imply you are just vain and trying to be fake, where it is actually more about wanting to take care of yourself. Understanding the importance of preventative treatments is precisely not to change your appearance in any way but to simply keep you looking as though you never had anything done, you just look fabulous! That is how you age gracefully! I think social media has a huge impact on the perception of what it is that I do. There are the issues of price gouging, the whole celebrity ego of being an injector, as well as the bashing of the “competition”. None of which I agreed with and so I wanted to do things differently. I decided that my true goal was to take better care of my patients, and to make their experience very customized so they can not only look, but feel their very best. This can be very powerful.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Selfie, is a Medical Aesthetic center with a focus in age prevention and injectables located in South Miami. I got here today by visualizing what I wanted this business to be every single day. In my mind, I already could see the space, what it would look like, and how the operations would go. Those details started to manifest into my reality. I also researched every single aspect of the business, from what brands I would work with to what furniture was the most practical. I also listened to what my previous patients were saying when they had complaints about parking, location, no beverages being served, long wait times, etc. I wanted to remove all the obstacles and just make it a simplified and easy experience, after all Aesthetic Medicine is supposed to be enjoyable. What sets me apart is my attention to detail. I spare no expense towards the comfort and experience for my patients. This is luxury medicine and I want to treat it that way. One of the lessons I learned when it comes to opening your own business is to trust your own instincts and listen only to the people more successful than you. There are a lot of opinions that will come along the way, but it is your own vision, so take the risk.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I have been in Miami for over 15 years and I am still loving exploring the city where everyone comes to vacation. I would start with breakfast at The Daily Creative Food Co, that menu is something exquisite. Follow that with walking around the Design District to see the ever-changing artwork, plus it is also a great place to take an amazing Selfie 😉 I also recommend Gumbo Limbo Pottery in Kendall to make your very own one of a kind masterpiece. It is so satisfying to make something with your own hands. The weather is always pretty warm so swimming in the Venetian Pool is a great way to cool down in Miami. While in the Coral Gables area, touring the Biltmore is a great way to see some beautiful architecture and get a special Bloody Mary at the bar (I like mine spicy). Also, watch whatever is playing at the Adrienne Arsht center, it doesn’t matter, just do it. We all could use a little more theater in our lives.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my Aesthetically Speaking business partners and Selfie team members, Melissa White and Jessica Levi. These two girls really helped push me to go out on my own. Sometimes, we do not see ourselves as others might see us. It just takes the right people to help open your eyes and show you things within yourself that you might have taken for granted. Their support and motivation has helped me to share my true self with the world through my businesses and taking on opportunities I would not have taken before. They have helped me to not hold back and to embrace my leadership in this industry. Without them, none of what I have accomplished would have been possible. Plus, I much rather make my way to the top with a team rather than alone.
