I feel like consistency in the industry that I am in was the hardest habit to keep up with. Back when I was just starting as a makeup artist, I would get so discouraged. There were times when I had more clients than I can take on and there were times when I wouldn’t have anyone for weeks. In these moments, I truly wanted to quit. Being in a beauty based industry is not for the weak, especially when you have so many persons doing the same thing that you are doing. I had to intentionally remain consistent with posting my work, and finding new strategies to keep my existing customers as well as attracting new ones. Everything I need to succeed, I have learned at my local skatepark or surf break. Action sports are all about progression. It’s not about being better than anyone else, but about being better than your past self. I have learned that remaining consistent and diligent is so underrated. Consistency plays a major role in the growth and progress of a business. I am a goal chaser. It is helpful for me to gauge my progress by writing things down so I can cross them off my list and visually see what needs to be done as well as physically see my progress by checking off completed tasks. Even in times when I feel as though I am not accomplishing my goals I am able to look back at my lists to see that I am indeed working the plan and making progress. As I take a minute to reflect I realize that I have years worth of full notebooks that include hundreds of tasks, reminders, and completed thing which have documented my progress and growth.
