Meet Pia Vasquez | Singer/ Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Pia Vasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk has played an incredibly positive role throughout my life and my career. To me the idea of taking risks is about trusting my intuition and following through with my all. One of the biggest risks I have taken in my life was moving from my native country Ecuador to the U.S. to pursue my dream of making music and becoming a singer. I knew this decision was necessary if I wanted to grow, learn, and succeed in the music industry. That decision has proven to be the right one as many incredibly wonderful life changing events have come from it.
My best experiences and most successful moments have all come after a big jump of taking risks and making a leap of faith. I know now that all of those experiences have made me today an incredibly brave and courageous woman. Similar to a muscle, the more you practice following your intuition and being courageous the easier it becomes in making decisions that may look risky, but are directly in line with your ultimate goals. The moment that you feel a big impulse of doing something no matter how small or big it is, I would say “Just Do It!” Something magical always happens for me when I jump into the unknown. Somehow it’s like all the doors seem to open and the way becomes clearer. I prefer risk over regret!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Latin Pop singer and songwriter, currently working on an Urban Pop album, and am very excited to say that I am about to release my new single “Ahora Lloras.” This is an awesome Reggaetón song with incredible beats and I can not wait for people to hear it! I have a number of other tracks that are in production, so stay tuned!
What sets me apart from other artists is my journey, my South American and New York background, and the experiences I have had throughout my life come out in my art, style and expression.
All of my experiences shine through in my art. They add to my personal flavor, my style, and expression. As an artist, I am always striving to tell a story and connect with the audience in ways that only I can do.
I got into the entertainment industry when I was 17 years old. I spent time in different facets of the business, enjoying time doing commercial modeling, hosting TV and radio shows. Music has been a part of my life since birth. I inherited this passion from my mother, who is also a talented singer and writer. My love for the music goes beyond singing. Performing as an artist fulfills me, it gives me a combined feeling of joy with a rush of adrenaline. I absolutely love connecting with and entertaining the audience. The entire show and production mean so much to me. I love creating an incredible experience, combining the choreography and amazing dancers with the passion I put out in my songs. I am very involved in the creative process in every aspect of my music and videos.
As much as music was a part of my upbringing, my family were successful entrepreneurs and I grew up appreciating business and learned that pursuing dreams, regardless of industry type, were absolutely possible. I give so much credit to my parents for being such an incredible example and support system that have shown me how to succeed. It is really a credit to my family that I am succeeding at my dream!
I am most proud of my decision to commit to this journey as an artist. The decision to pursue my passion has provided me with wonderful experiences and has taught me many lessons along the way. I have learned that all of my decisions have proven to be the right ones, even when I could not recognize it immediately. Sometimes what seems to be a wrong turn is simply a matter of taking a better path. I am a true believer in intuition and a higher power. My internal guidance system has, and continues to be the biggest force in my journey. I have learned so much and am continuously evolving as a human being and life is always bringing me different incredible opportunities and adventures.
Getting to where I am today has taken effort, consistent effort. Similar to other stories of success born from passion, there have been challenges and obstacles to overcome. In my case, one of first things that I had to grasp, was how to survive in a new country by myself, with no family around me. I have been incredibly blessed to always have great friends and people willing to help me and guide me along my journey. I have also come to learn to be flexible with my ideas and to go with the flow. In reflection, I have matured considerably through this process. I recognize that everything I want to accomplish comes with an equal amount of work and dedication. There are no shortcuts, it is consistent discipline and bravery that continue to guide me. Also, regardless of passion, one of the biggest things I have learned to overcome is criticism and that other peoples’ ideas are not going to compromise my dreams and success. My journey has taught me to have a thick skin and let critical words roll off me like water on a duck. I credit much of this to time spent in NYC, and for those who also have, I am sure understand.
The biggest lessons I have learned are to work hard, always be ethical, stay determined, and persevere with grace. Spiritual knowledge and a belief in the wisdom of a higher power have given me strength to withstand the challenging times. I acknowledge that I am not nearly as powerful on my own as when I let go, trust, and believe.
I want the whole world to know my music! I want to share my message of empowerment, my culture, bring more joy and excitement to people through my performances, and ultimately help to open doors to more Ecuadorian artists and showcase our beautiful country. It is incredibly important to me that I continuously deliver a message of hope and encouragement, and to remind my Latin community that we have everything we need to succeed.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
