We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Von der Goltz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always loved real estate, architecture, especially interiors. I studied Business and went to culinary school, while I worked in the industry for many years the remodeling and furnishing of homes and businesses always called me. I have two wonderful twin daughters and I dedicated most of my time to them in their elementary and middle school years, but when I started to see them not needing me as much as they grew older I started to think about the day they were going to leave to college. I decided it was time I did something for myself. I don’t want the day they leave to college wondering what I should do with my time or why didn’t I start something that fulfilled me sooner. Enter the Covid pandemic and I started to study interior design online, I dove into every digital marketing course, courses for systems and process for interior designers. Every online class I stumbled upon I enrolled myself. Prior to March 2020, I had been remodeling homes and had friendly relations with interior designers and many encouraged me to get in the business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My interior design business is very fulfilling in many ways. In every project I have the pleasure of meeting and almost being part of many great families. I like to study people’s habits and ways in which they live and use their spaces. This process allows me to help transform their homes so they enjoy and use them in the best possible way. Throughout the years I have had the priviledge to meet many great trades people too, contractors, electricians, wallpaper installers, plumbers, etc. who I can call and trust with all my projects. There are obstacles and mistakes happen, but we are a team, a family and we all work very well together to solve the problems that come up. My story is about getting to know people no matter what path they are on. I embrace hardworking and honest people who have a passion for living a well lived life and having a beautiful and functional spaces to grow and love in.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Best places and things to do in Miami: Fairchild garden for a stroll and then head over to Green Street Cafe in the Grove for a hearty brunch. Walk around Coconut Grove and check out all the little boutiques. Vizcaya Museum and Gardens for beautiful pictures and to take in the magnificent architecture. Key Biscayne for a walk on the beach in the afternoon. Dinner I love Bellini in the Mr. C Hotel in the Grove.
Wynwood and the Design District, My favorite lunch place is Michael’s Genuine (order the crispy hominy for a delicious treat). Check out the Palm Court and Paradise Plaza even just for people watching and window shopping.
The PAAM (Perez Art Museum) is a great spot to check out their interesting art collection and new exhibitions.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Shoutout is to a very dear friend of mine, a mother, amazing designer and a big supporter of women, Ximena Kavalekas . She is a wise, strong, vibrant, confident, hard working woman who can win a crowd or one person with her kindness and personable abilities. Ximena is a selfless woman who has the ability to persevere through life with a strong heart and an abundance of passion and laughter. She gives her time to encourage other women entrepreneurs and help many charity causes.. She teaches everyone around her what it is to give of yourself, to give from the heart, to stay active and youthful,
