We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorena Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lorena, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Since my 20s, I had a clear picture of what I wanted to do for work. I knew that renovating old homes was a love of mine. How I would achieve it was only a money factor; I worked 2/3 jobs in the field to save money, partnered up with whoever was interested, and studied part-time. I did very little partying and traveling because I couldn’t afford it. Every cent I made, I saved which took me to my first flip. During my 30s, even though I was able to enjoy more, I was an “all about work” kind of person, which in my heart I believe affected my personal life. I switched gears and slowed down because I realized the amount of stress it was bringing me. Today, I have financial freedom to enjoy life and I’m less preoccupied on the end-result, as I am also enjoying the process.
I know I will always get to the end successfully. I’m no longer in the race and I’m more focused on my health and mental well-being.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have the power of visualization within the first 4 minutes I walk into a new place. What I imagine, I can create. But this power is useless, if you lack the knowledge. I like to say that I have mastered the art of designing a cost-effective project, that is timeless in design, while allocating the money right where it needs to be.
Improving the home, increasing its value, and achieving a return on your investment, is ultimately my goal.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Funny question, I just had my very good friend visit- this is what we did on her week long trip.

Day 1: I would take you for a walk in Design District, we would lunch in Mandolin or Contessa (my new favorite) but Mandolin, is Mandolin. Then enjoy ice cream at Aubi & Ramsa. (Please get the chocolate azteca).

Day 2: Go to a work out at Legacy Fit Coral Gables, explore the Grove and have a quick drink in Key Club, and go get ready for a night out at Mila.

Day 3: Wake up late, I will make you a Lavazza espresso & breakfast at my Coconut Grove NYC style townhome, before heading out to Santorini Beach club in the Hilton Bentley, My “backyard”.

Day 4: We can go shop in Aventura Mall, I grew up in Aventura and to this day it is the best. At night, hit Bagatelle Miami.

Day 5: Another beautiful day, let’s spend it right and go Spa and pool day at the Standard hotel. At night, I would take you walking to Espanola way and show you the new and incredible Esme Hotel. A little moorish corner in Miami, done to absolute perfection.

Day 6: We are running out of time. Do I take you to Soho House or want to go boating?

Day 7: Your trip is coming to the end. Let’s end it right. Seaspice Sundays!🥂

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of all, my parents who invested and trusted their own means into my high-level education and experiences. They supported my dreams and gave me that and beyond. Second, Jack Tobin. Meeting him in 1997 gave me a crash course into the Interior Design World in Miami; I don’t think he realizes how thankful I am for him.
And lastly, everyone who has partnered up with me on projects and specially Katherine Suarez, my biggest supporter, who trusted me with all she had.
