We had the good fortune of connecting with Keith Harvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keith, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
A desire to reduce carbon and environmental footprint and create a circular economy zero waste business model with strong social aspect and ethics
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
UGP Energy are a renewable energy start up from sustainable feedstock in a zero waste circular economy business model. From supporting agriculture, reducing environmental & carbon footprint with a non fossil fuel or deforestation related business model we will produce, but not limited to, clean green renewable electricity hydrogen, biochar, fibres and hurd for agricultural, construction, aparel etc.
We are still in the fundraising, start up stage and whilst it isn’t easy states and countries require what we offer and we have ongoing conversations. It’s been hard work and a really enjoyable journey to date though.
Having suffered a cardiac arrest and been clinically dead at the beginning of the journey I view things very differently. With my ICD implant keeping me alive there have been personal tough obstacles to overcome as well as the business ones but to “be the difference” has driven me and the team forward with no lack of enthusiasm.
It always seems impossible until it is done. – and we intend to get it done.. Believing in the company and more importantly what it will deliver is a great driver.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Loch Lomond side Scotland and have just returned from visiting our son who is on a soccer scholarship in Miami.
Brickell is a must go to. The road bridge opened to allow a ship to pass through which was pretty cool- although I’m sure the cars lined up awaiting it to close didn’t feel the same. .
South Beach is fantastic and would definitely be on the list.
Little Havana with its retro buildings and cars and it’s of film interest is pretty cool.
A trip over into Key Biscayne and shopping in Wynwood are also essential to dos.
The diversity and quality of places to eat and drink are incredible. The multicultural diversity meaning there’s something for absolutely everyone.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Entrepreneurs who share their experiences and road map to how they achieved success I admire and respect. From an old school friend John Scott at the Scott Group to Stephen A Schwarzman, What it takes whose book (What it takes- Lessons in the pursuit of excellence ) I read on vacation recently. Coaching, whether directly or indirectly, I think is invaluable. We are always learning.
