We had the good fortune of connecting with Pablo Taborda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pablo, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process of starting my own business stems from my personal side. I was dating my girlfriend, now wife, and I knew I saw a future with her. I was a college student and working at Starbucks at the time so I wanted to make sure I could start saving for the future. It became a side gig, but the more I worked, the more traction I was getting. A lot of it was just friends who either wanted to support me or just looking to save a buck with my “friends and family discount”. I appreciated all the work and visibility, and all the highs and lows. It’s gotten me to where I am now.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business strategy is much different, I’m sure, than most people who have been interviewed. I don’t post a lot on my instagram, I don’t promote a lot of my work and I don’t try to gain new clients or followers. I am a strong believer in good work ethic and letting it speak for itself. A lot of my current work has been by word of mouth and by connections from previous jobs, which I truly desire to have more of. I prefer to gain clients through organic relationship and connection. A perfect example is when I used to do headshots for a company for years. One guy that used to work there, left to start a different career entirely, and his first thought for production photography was through me; mind you I hadn’t spoken to him in almost three years up to this point. But it was because of the way I worked with the clients and built a relationship, even if it was for only a couple of minutes, that matters most, outside of the quality of my work. Plenty of times I have worked with clients that end up being friends after the gig.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I have a friend that is visiting in the city, the first place I would take them is somewhere to eat! First place would probably be a dumpling spot I love called dumpling king, either the north miami location or the east pembroke pines area. They have shanghai soup dumplings that are the best I’ve ever had, without a doubt. After that, probably follow it up with either a cup of coffee or some bubble tea nearby. If we’re in the north miami area, probably hit up Alaska coffee company or go a bit northeast to the hollywood area and hit up super wow cofffee. I definitely would try to hit up at least one good local coffee shop in the area every day, especially if they roast their own beans. Definitely making sure we grab a nice slice of pizza, my current favorite is New Haven Style pizza, Frank Pepe, in Plantation. I honestly think it rivals the more popular types like new york and chicago. As far as activities, I love to find what’s going on in the area and visit events like RenFair, or a book fair or a farmer’s market. My wife and I love taking our daughter Olivia (affectionately known as “Bean” by us and our family) to parks and markets and trying new foods or products locally owned and made. As a local business owner, it’s important to not only uplift local businesses and help their voices be heard, but to shop local as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my wife for always supporting my vision and my goals. Thanks to her, she believes in me and supports me in all my endeavors. Thankful for her love, prayer and help through it all.
